No issue with trainers favouring Aintree or preferring it but I wish PN would fuck off with all this Cheltenhan obsession chat
He seems too obsessed with throwing that comment in at every possible opportunity, like he's trying to convince himself !

Less than a year ago this horse reminded him of Denman and has seemingly taken to fences like a dream … That being said, he did slow up in the final 1/2 furlong in the Ballymore last year. Was it the hill? Or trying to live with Bob’s pace?

        • Just backed BMG @ 5s For the BAN. Wasn't going to but thought if GDC don't take to fences then he comes here. Shit price but at least its in the book and better than 4s.

Would you not be worried that if GDC didn't take to fences then it's very likely GDM would be coming here? Different discipline but GDM easily had BMGs measure last season. I'd much rather take the 25s GDM than BMG if that were the case.

            • Got GDM any race. But BMG just got the better of me after thinking about it since its win today.

I think it could well be a combination of the 2, he couldn't lay a glove on a top notcher in bob olinger and was also quite comfortably beaten by another very good horse in gdm, i think bmg is a very good horse also but see a similar scenario with the Irish horses beating him again next march. I accept i could easily end up with egg on my face though !

                • I've not backed BMG and backed GDC/M for this race but I'd say GDC/M would need to improve quite a bit to get on the level of BMG over hurdles. He is very good for a novice and the step up to 3m should improve him further.

If you look at the Ballymore, he did try and go with BO fairly far out and was beaten by a generational horse (IMO) but has improved since and I don't think BO will turn up here.

Do you think BMG will turn up here though? IMO if anything in Ireland looks like a weapon and targeting this race, I could easily see Nicholls skipping cheltenham. Just the way he works now a days isn't it?

If there was a sniff of Bob O turning up here, it would give Paul Nicholls the excuse to skip Cheltenham. I don't really blame him as it has worked out so far for likes of Monmiral. He may not be bothered about the horse's novice year, more interested in the following year when it matters more

At the moment, I'd say its more likely than not. If PN has a really good one (not counting 4 year olds where he seems to be a bit more cautious) they seem to take their chance.

                        • PN is just using a big stage on ITV with a large audience to push his 'Cheltenham isn't everything agenda' post win. If BMG wins the KS well over 3 miles I think he'll most likely come here IMO

                          • I've not backed BMG for any race at the Festival. Does that tell a story ?? Or am I just an idiot ??

                            • What a performance by BMG today. I think GDC (my biggest festival winner) will have to be Super impressive to beat him come March. That is if PN sends him there!

would never of ducked Cheltenham in the Kauto, Denman, Big Bucks Era. All about the trainers title these days.

Paul will run him if he thinks he will win

If something in Ireland looks to be a genuine superstar like monkfish did he will probably swerve Cheltenham for Aintree

I have BMG and GDC on side and haven't seen anything yet that I'm worried about beating them.
