    • I'm very much in the camp of 'if you've enough stamina to run in the Cheltenham Bumper, you're unlikely to have the speed to win a 2 mile novice championship'. The last 5 years, no Supreme or Mares Novice winner has come on from the Bumper and Shishkin is the only one to come from a PtP/NHF background.

For this race in particular, the 5 winners have had one bumper run between them and that was in France.

      • Only thing about Politesse - would her hurdles win at Clonmel in March not rule her out of the mares novice race?

Something I have not seen put up about Princess Zoe is if she keeps moving up in grade on the flat will she ever go NH Racing?

That's my worry too even taking into account owners comments she may be too good to go hurdling.

              • Lobos for a man so swayed by a single comment by Honeysuckles connections im surprised you would be worried here with the multiple comments by the trainer and those attributed to the owners.
I dont think Tony could have been any clearer yesterday that they are going to Cheltenham.
The owners backed her at 66/1 or whatever the top price was, they wont be put off by having her near favourite!

                • Can’t for the life of me see her staying on the flat for more than 1 more race in France

I do hope you are right but the pound sign is very persuasive !

Only a novice until the Hatton's Grace though, so she can be forgotten about for here.

Given who she is related too i'd say they might step her up in trip, but who knows. Will get harder when she has to face open company, but i like her a lot too.
Thanks Jack that clears that up and I can put a line through for this race.

I will be keeping a close eye on her over the year.

Obviously anybody can change their mind but it would be some u turn https://twitter.com/RacingTV/status/...827806722?s=07

Looks like we will be getting regular updates on her progress towards the mares novice at Cheltenham https://twitter.com/tonymullins84/st...426229249?s=19

Im very much looking forward to seeing how she gets on jumping a hurdle. Sounds like shes a dream ride on the flat. Just won over 1m4f and the trainer thinks that the Group 1 in France should be no problem distance wise (2m3f) "shes like your pet pony you can just turn her on and off"

The other Mullins will no doubt be the biggest danger and the bookies seem to be wary of most of Willies unraced mares and adding them to the market at lower prices than last year.

I'd agree with this Archie re bumper runners and a 2mile mares novice.

I mean if she wins a grade 1 on the flat i think they'd be mad to go over hurdles. In fact, i already think they are mad to be considering it given how good she's been.

It does seem balmy that they are considering it. They would net £150k+ for winning a group 1 in France. Why would you risk running over hurdles for a fraction of that.

One thing worth noting (I hadn't realised), the trainer and owner had the runner up in the Cesarewitch last season so they may go there again. More unfinished business for them

Maybe im missing the point here but Altior and Summerville boy both started off in NHF races and they won the supreme in the last 5 years.
