  • I think I might struggle to back Hook Up for the race unless she's really impressive somewhere.

She not like Concertista that ran well. Then after retaining her novice status she came back last year and won. Or Epatante that was well fancied and highly regarded before running flat, and then come back to win the Champion Hurdle. They have entirely different profiles.

Hook Up didn't get home on her first run and was relatively unbacked for a Mullins horse, Then she ran at long odds at Cheltenham and was battered like the market said she would be, again not appearing to get home.

Her form in France wasn't comparable to those two either, and doesn't particularly inspire. On the plus side she's with a trainer who you'd expect to improve her significantly. Hopefully for backers she strengthens up and maybe Willie will tinker with her wind too.

She's in the no bet and watch category for me though. Brandy Love should be too really I suppose, but I happen to know a bit more about her, and she was mightily impressive in her point to back up what I've heard. It's also a bonus her point was over two and half and she looked to have a high cruising speed that some good prospects just couldn't live with.

Luck is a dividend of sweat. The more I sweat, the luckier I get.

Also Ennistymon (OR 106) entered for AOB and Buildmeupbuttercup (OR 99) for WPM, and Joseph has two in their with official ratings of 104 and 105, so it could be a really competitive race.
The 2017 edition was the sainted Airlie Beach's final race in which she achieved her flat rating of 100. I still have the memento trophy.
14 races 9 wins 1 second 2 third. This last race she was ridden by one of 4 champion jockeys to have had the privilege.

The main difference with Concertista and Hook Up is the age factor.

I agree Concertista was good at Cheltenham first time up, but then didn’t win after that all season. Then again ran a blinder at Cheltenham to hose up! Hook Up has had 2 runs for Mullins as a juvenile, the first decent enough but poor in the triumph.

She could have plenty of improvement, she may not. As COD says though Paddy P have her the shortest of the mullins mares for the race.

          • Princess Zoe in high class race at Galway today. Run well in that and she is likely to run in Cesarewitch. They clearly think she is some filly !

Danger is they may think she's now too good to go hurdling. Good to have her in book though regardless.

Not sure I’d agree with that argument Lobos. Connections have been very vocal that it’s the owners dream to win a race at the Festival. So the idea that the horse would be too classy to run over hurdles doesn’t sit right with me. The rightful fav at this point with them saying she’s being aimed at the race.

Gypsy Island beats her though lads..

                      • If she can jump she is going to be very dangerous in this, there were 4 horses rated 100 plus in that Galway race just then. Glad I took the 16s, it will be fun seeing what happens next.

                        • Racing TV, a long interview with Tony Mullins.

The owner is adamant she isn’t for sale, she is special to them, and it doesn’t matter if she wins Listed or Group 1 on the flat, they have unfinished business at the Cheltenham Festival from many years ago.

Nice. Do we know what the unfinished business related to ? She's 8/1 fav for Cesarewitch now.

She's available at 14/1 for the Cesarewitch, Lobos. 8/1 is shortest price available.
