  • It was a big shock but rather she was beaten today than in March, i’m sure she will be back to herself come the festival.

    • Interesting to watch Irish challengers next

But must encourage Henry to think big a bit more

Anyone not yet on, might be worth backing Honey if nothing looks special on Tues....and def worth double with 2 Willie ones in case switches

      • Easy to bash individual horses when the common denominator has been terrible for a good few weeks now.

        • Epatante was clearly not at her best yesterday for whatever reason, and the tactics deployed by her jockey and on Silver Streak certainly didn't help. So the two combined, along with crashing through the 3rd last contrived to get her beaten by a horse she beat easily in the race last year and again in the Champion hurdle.

However, there is mounting evidence that Silver Streak is a better horse this year.

He looked really good on his return this season beating a 160 rated mare giving her 11lb, and breaking kempton's track record (makes sitting off him yesterday look even worse)

He got run out of the last race against Epatante at the start.

And never got a run until too late against Song For Someone, in a messy race.

Of all the Champion hurdle contenders he has been the most consistent and looks the most improved. With Song for Someone close behind.

Can't disagree with any of that Q. However, hand on heart, you know and I know that neither of those mentioned will be triumphant in March. Both very good , honest horses but not Champion Hurdle winners. I wouldn't have a penny on either.

It's going to be another big field Champion Hurdle, isn't it. Any two mile hurdler rated 155 and above will be taking their chance.

I'd be more encouraged with Silver Streak.
But I kind of see what you're saying.
The Irish race this week will tell us more.

                    • Credit to Evan Williams for getting Silver Streak prepared to win the race. I was surprised Silver Streak was racing again 2 weeks after a hard race at Cheltenham. I thought he’d be making the numbers up and it would be a stroll for Epatante in the days building up to the race but started having concerns when her and Cyrname were being involved in so many offers and price boosts with the bookies. Surprise surprise they both ran stinkers and mugs like me are still pulling the hooks out of our mouths.

Henderson’s stable is misfiring quite a bit of late. Anyone heard if there are any issues at 7 Barrows??

                      • Just posted in the other thread.
But the prices for the Matheson hurdle are very strange IMO.
I just cannot understand why the front 2 in the market are not bigger, as this is a proper grade 1, and not like the last time.
It's just tricky to choose who to go to war with.

Although Sharjah is the most logical choice, he just lacks a run, which he's had in previous seasons.
Saldier seems to be ok first time up but..
And why would Aspire Tower not uphold the form with Abacadabras ?

                        Really fascinating race.
This race and the Savilles are brilliant races but also a massive issue for ante-post backers, as deciphering the results and strategizing will take some skill.

                        • Paul Townend has picked Saldier over Sharjah. 12/1 completely wrong price IMO, should be half that.

Doubt if it was his choice.

Yeah Patrick is basically Sharjah’s jockey at this point so doubt Townend had any choice

                              • To win Matheson and Champion prices look generous if anyone wants a saver.

                                Sharjah 66-1
                                Aspire Tower 66-1
                                Saldier 100-1

All with hills and all can be boosted.
