If they can teach her to settle that may help her jumping

    • Mighty Blue has went from running in a Group 3 at the Curragh to crawling round Thurles for 10f, unsurprising she isnt used to going so slow early in a race, shell be fine in a strongly run race, jumping is another matter. If you watch the first 200m of the Curragh race shes settled stone last well behind a good gallop, by comparison at Thurles she up behind the leaders and jockey was obviously told to hold her up, hence the constant pulling. Shes obviously quite keen by nature so I think strong pace will be the key to her.

      • Metres rather than furlongs. Anyone would think you're commenting on the racing in Hong Kong.

Sacrilege from me, international racing has left a mark.

I suspect that Gauloise is a decent enough price because, of the short-priced ones, she may the most likely to go to Cheltenham. However, some good judges consider Hook Up the better of the two so it might be worth waiting to see who travels. Royal Kahala won't run at Cheltenham and Fairyhouse (Easter) so with the latter being a Grade 1 (and on a track she likes) it might be tempting to stay at home (the 2.5 mile is probably better for her as well). The owners will have the final say, no doubt, but the Cheltenham craic isn't going to be there this year so they may decide to wait a year and go for the Mares hurdle next year. Difficult to see past Royal Kahala for the Solerina.

Is there a reason she wont run in both? Is the gap between Cheltenham and Fairyhouse shorter this year?

Easter is early this year, first weekend in April, so would only be 2 and half weeks after Chelt

                • I agree Paul. I don't think Peter and Oran will come over this year and will target Fairyhouse instead.

I didn't cover her for the Mares Novices because of thart assumption, but given nrnb is floating around now I probably should as a precuation.

                  • It does leave this race with a very poor look to it this year.

Given i'm only on the favourite and i do think she looked alright, but not superstar mare material last time, i'm feeling an urge to try and cover her.

I get the feeling from WPM's interview after the Stattler win, that Glens Of Antrim is one he very much likes. I thought she travelled every bit as well as the winner but was outstayed. Her jumping could do with improving as well. She might be worth a stab at 25/1 NRNB, in case they do see her as a "handicap plot".

Skyace would be one slightly tempting as well, i just can't get my head around her winning, and the improvement she's shown.

                    • Agree with what’s being said, I think the lack of potential opposition is why Gauloise is so short, that and he’s also with WPM etc.

It wouldn’t surprise me if he throws something into the Solerina on debut. Which horse that is I have no idea, only one I know of not to be seen yet is Idioles De Jaunes. No doubt he’ll have others but not that I’ve heard anything about.

Obviously being in the position I am with Gauloise I’ve been pretty impressed with what she’s done, also WPM seems to have been very happy with her, as was PT.

Beat Cape Gentleman on the flat. I hope we see her this season.

I’m thinking she’ll do a Concertista and her first run will be in the MNH

Gannat would be another contender if she has indeed moved over to ireland/england from france. There was some talk of her being moved to willie mullins a little while ago but I never heard anymore about it.

                            • Coeutil had said Gannat and Genola were both for sale, but I've not seen whether they were bought and if so who they were moved to.

Genola has that decent bumper run to her name at HQ on New Years day, and I expected her to be back, but they stuck to races in France. I was there that day and saw her in the parade ring, and she looked like a pony.

Gannat has run to a similar level of form (maybe a shade behind), but I've never seen her so I can't comment on how much scope she might have.

                              • I wonder if Willie might consider giving Brandy Love a entry in the Solerina Mares Hurdle or enter her at the DRF. If so we could have a new fav for the mares hurdle at Cheltenham.
