Don't run them when it gets too soft either though Archie. Times have changed.

    • Hopefully Newcastle have plans in place to have 'safe' ground before the Fighting Fifth or the Constitution Hill saga will begin all over again. People are going to turn out in their droves to watch him so hope they spend a few quid on a watering can.

Trainers that pull their horses because they feel they cannot perform to their ability on ground that’s too soft, does not compare to potential top novices being risked.

Absolutely, and no way as a fan do I want to see him break down.
Rather wait longer to see him .

They can't wrap him up again this season. People will give up on him. I'm sure they'll water and make it safe to get him there. Let's hope Hendo plays ball.

              It’s simple.
Hendo will run him at Newcastle (or anywhere) as long as he’s happy with the ground.
If he’s concerned with the ground he may not.
Just what I would expect from any trainer.

              • Whether a horse is top class or not should make no difference to the apparent welfare issue of running on different types of ground. Makes a mockery of the excuse of not running a horse on said ground when the trainer runs other horses at the same meeting. Why is it safe for less talented horses and not safe for the stable star.

                  One run in 19 months

Seems like an age ago since he won the Champion Hurdle

His 2 runs since, have been

                  -10lbs (167 Aintree)
                  -14lbs (163 Kempton)

.....lower than his Champion Hurdle win (on RPRs)

Neither of which may be good enough to win next March.

So hopefully we see him twice before the year end and he can start back with a 170+ rating.

Not sure about taking too much notice of the 163 at Kempton
                    Won in a canter
But yes, would be nice to see him start back with a rating we all know he’s been capable of .
Might need the opposition to push him a tad though, they are never very hard on him.

                    • I always have a feeling that exuberant horses like CH have a shorter shelf life than those that are a little less sexy and hit a flat spot like big bucks or inglis drever
mid like to see CH do it on the course again

                      • Have always felt that wrapping them in cotton wool increases their chances of injury when they eventually run. Bit like a footballer who's been out injured for some time coming back and picking up a different injury. Run them more often and it toughens them up. Owners are wimps these days bending over backwards to trainers when they pay all the bills.

                        • I always remember when I met ferny Murphy. He took me up into his office for a coffee. He said, you won’t tell me how to train a horse and I won’t tell you how to do a hip replacement.

Knowing when to run them is a major part of training
