JP doesn't need a runner in every race. If he wants a runner in the BANC, he could buy one or put Sa Majeste or even Bioluminescence in it. In all likelihood, he just doesn't have a runner.

Only just caught up with the race. Take Sir Gino out of the race and Ballyburn would be an even money fav for the Arkle in my opinion. He was big at the first but otherwise jumped quite low and accurately (bar the error at the last). His jump at the third was exquisite … but was still second best at that fence. He travelled nicely too.
And all of that makes Sir Gino even more impressive. He didn’t beat a version of Ballyburn making errors at his fences, or even being ponderous. I try to measure my language and avoid overusing superlatives but to my eye, that was extraordinary. It was the best chase debut I’ve seen bar none. And how brilliant that he could be in open company at 6.
I know we’ve ‘forgotten’ about Majborough to an extent, but he’ll not lay a glove on Sir Gino. It’d be a good race between him and Ballyburn, but Sir Gino has the hallmark of a potential great over 2 miles.
However, in true Columbo style, just one thing … Ballyburn would get a swing at Cheltenham the weights, he did jump left, and he’d prefer the undulations of Cheltenham.
But he’d still lose.

Can't see them running a 5yo in the banc. Especially with the way he jumped and travelled on debut.
As it stands he's willies best arkle horse. Unless impaire bolts in tomorrow.Last edited by FinalFurlong91; 27 December 2024, 09:33 PM.
