He only gets the winners prize money as well as the others didn't compete. RP only has him winning the first place prize money.

      From the BHA:

Races With More Prizes Than Declared Runners 5. If, after the deadline for Declarations to Run and before the Race is declared ‘Off’,
a race has fewer declared runners than the number of placings to which money or prizes
are due to be allocated, the surplus shall be deducted from the amount due from the
Racecourse in relation to the Total Prize Fund for the Race.

No idea on the novice status but I'd imagine he's lost it.

        • I cannot understand why we allow novice chasers to debut in novice handicaps, one way to fix some of the garbage field sizes we have here is to not allow that, its a total joke that the BHA basically allow them to run in these races off of their hurdle marks or worse yet they're allowed to run in open handicap chases off their hurdle mark without even running in a chase.

Thank you sir. ITV done me dirty yesterday!

The lack of penalty must be a new rule after Henderson kicked up a fuss a few years ago:

No idea where the winning all the prize money came from... Or where the other prize money goes now?

You'd be better getting rid of novice handicaps at this time of year than banning novices from debuting in them like. Imagine how bad those fields would look!

I thought they'd win all of it as well so I was surprised they didn't. The racecourse I assume keeps the rest. I also thought a penalty would occur because of Pentland Hills walkover a couple of years ago and Henderson stating it but apparently that wasn't the case. Couldn't check if it did apply for him as he went from a walkover to graded to handicap so no penalty applied anyway.

Racecourse keeping prize money is horrific.
I was there yesterday and after a few days in balmy Cornwall it felt about -12 at Exeter, a round of bovril might have helped the thousands who were subjected to a 70 min gap between races….

They actually introduced this to help with field sizes. Thinking trainers would run their horses against each other if they were running off hurdle marks. "Parity" so to speak.
As opposed to the multitude of Maidens/Novice chases they used to have where they (inferior horses) had to run off levels against superior hurdlers.

Not fucking made any difference though has it ?

                      Less races, less courses.
                      Get on with it.

The drift from 1/5 to 4/5 told you everything. 10 mins late to post - think Hendo remembered they hadn't shown him a proper fence yet. 1st and 2nd jumps were awful and didn't make a comfortable shape at most of them.
