Looking objectively at the form (i.e. not on what they see at home, other owner's input), Willie should split them:
Arkle: Il Etait Temps, Blood Destiny, Hunters Yarn
IET won the key Arkle trial so goes; BD and HY looks speedsters over 2m - I don't think either are good enough but I'd argue they've both earned their chance in an open year.
Turners: Facile Vega, Gaelic Warrior
FV is clearly a blindspot to not TRY over further. I can't remember another situation where a horse of his has continuously been called his best at the shortest distance after losing over it 3 times. Stepping him up could unleash further improvement and I'm not counting GW out of this either. He was beaten before his jumping was an issue at Leopardstown. He's obviously better right handed and should go for the Fairyhouse 2.5miler at Easter, but the race is weak enough that he could get away with it at Cheltenham this year.
RSA: Fact To File, Grangeclare West
The speed of FTF's jumping may have been exaggerated versus GW at weekend but I still think he's a fairly slow jumper over the shorter distances. If the Turners was 2m5f I'd run him in that. I'm considerably less sure over 2m3f. GCW won the main trial at Xmas. If he's OK he should go RSA.
NH Chase: Embassy Gardens, Nick Rockett
They seem to love EG for this and he's looked good last two runs. NR has always been spoken of as a Grade 2 horse or just below top tier so it strikes me as an obvious race to target for him.

No brainer when you look at it that way.Last edited by FredFlintstone; 6 February 2024, 09:51 AM.
