Dont think conditions suit IEP today, went up against a proper horse who would have been 110% for this, and is proven
Any other given year, I'd be happy with that run.... BUT.... there's a certain Con Hill that wont be worried with that today
The double green have always been keen to send their horses to the champion hurdle (S Royal, Footpad). Never really happened for them
Ballymore... I've said it before, its normally weaker in terms of depth and quality when compared to the supreme. Very good winners of the Ballymore have often struggled in open company in the very top races. Not saying the ballymore is rubbish, I just think winners can often be inflated going into open company

Don't think the stats back up what you say regards the Ballymore vs Supreme.
They have similar track records going back over 30 years or so.
I don't think a 1 length second in a first start in open grade one company is that bad. Especially given he's only 5 and only ran 5 times in his NH career.
Teahupoo won his first grade 1 in open company on his 10th start.
Plenty of potential improvement to come.
With regards beating CH though, you'd have wanted a decent win today, so can see that angle.
Although some of the comments seem related to lost bets on his novice chase targets

I dont think IEP is bad, I thought his price was bad today and saw a plenty of "... how far does IEP win today" across twitter etc. I do believe Ballymore horses are over inflated - whether thats in OR's or RPRs, or whether its reflected in the price

If it was, I dont mind clarifying my position - I havent backed IEP (chasing or hurdling), nor considered him as a chaser or a champion hurdle winner. I had, and continue to have. State Man ahead of IEP.
What do they do next with IEP. I thought today was a very good run, I mentioned before the race that Teahupoo was no joke, and that IEP would have to run to a very high rating, on his first outing in open company, to win today. Thought conditions suited Teahupoo etc..
It was a good run by IEP and confirms he's a 160 horse. There are plenty of races to be won with him, over 2 miles. Come March though, Paul will have to decide which horse he wants to finish second on.
Maybe IEP will have a Samcro like season, under perform, turn a few people off him, allowing for a decent price on him for the 2025 Turners (if they go chasing next season)

I think Willie gave IEP the harder seasonal debut out of the two.
In hindsight it may have been better the other way around as State Man arguably needs to find more stamina to get nearer CH. And IEP may have benefited from an easier introduction.

No I dont. I think Teahupoo is a damn good horse over this distance, and very hard to beat, especially in soft conditions.

Over two miles or better ground. State Man and IEP would get their heads in front and win

Not sure when or if State Man and IEP will meet. DRF maybe?
Who wouuld I back? Likely come down to price, who else is in the race, size of field, pace... but I will naturally have a bias towards the more experienced horse - State Man
