Mentioned more than once by connections that softer ground is required for him. Is this not a concern for the festival?
What trip? I think we can pretty much all agree 2m is out of the question, but every trip from 2m4f and up is open as an option. Makes him a difficult one to pin down, although Robcour seem to suggest they don't want him in the NH Chase, so that helps, I guess.
His form is still questionable. The form from his p2p win is not inspiring. He's beat nothing of note over hurdles either, again though, he can only beat what's in front of him, but I'd still be cautious about over playing his ability, because he's not beat a huge deal, just yet.
His sire (Saddler Maker) has only had two festival winners, both mares, in mares races. Apples Jade & Eglantine Du Seuil. He has hit the bar with the geldings a couple of times though. Bristol De Mai (2nd in the JLT) & Discorama (2nd in the NH Chase). Not a stat to pin a decision on, but one I like to keep in mind.
I find Gerri Colombe a puzzling horse to work out. He's due to run tomorrow. There's currently a fair bit of sun today and tomorrow during the day (although a bit of rain during the night), so if it were to dry out a bit I imagine he won't be seen.
I’d argue Idas Boy has franked his form quite nicely. After winning his beginners as he wanted he was just touched off by a vastly more experienced El Barra at Cork the last day, El Barra is rated 154 which would put Idas Boy in that range too.
I wouldn’t have any fears about ground drying out too much at Fairyhouse. We had plenty of rain overnight here locally I’d say soft is as it will stay.

Good to hear about the weather. Hopefully we will see him out then
Idas Boy is a horse I like and one I've backed for the NH Chase myself, but he was only a 135 rated hurdler and he wasn't stuffed by Gerri Colombe.

And El Barra got beaten 68 lengths by Bob Olinger in the Marsh. El Barra is not a Grade 1 horse and therefore Idas Boy isn't either. You need to be a G1 horse to win at Cheltenham

I’d say Gordon has been biding his time to certain extent with Gerri, I wouldn’t put too much emphasis on the bare facts of what he achieved over hurdles.

He’s a good yardstick for a horse only having his second run over fences to compare against.
Anyway it’s a hot looking beginners field at Fairyhouse with Freedom To Dream, Shantreusse & Bronn all declared too so we’ll learn a lot hopefully albeit with a lot of Gordon’s yard looking like they’re in need of the run so we’ll see how fit/fat he’s looking in the parade ring.

Yeah good to compare against but not a G1 animal.
We will see what happens tomorrow. He should be winning based on his reputation tomorrow, however Gordon doesn't seem to have his horses fully wound up first time this season. I would say that based on the other horses in the race tomorrow none of them are potential G1 horses either and even Willie and HDB would say that neither of their horses would be among the best of their staying novice chasers

For a beginners chase is as deep as you’re going to get provided they all run.
Camprond over takes Bardenstown lad for worst jumper iv seen
He jumped that fence like he was a panto horse with two blokes in a suit
Did you/anyone happen to see Moriko de Vassey at Wetherby on Saturday ?
This is the RP comments:
'Didn't jump well, in rear, awkward jump 1st, blundered 7th, bad mistake 8th, recovered and chased leaders 4 out, pushed along after 3 out, went third 2 out, keeping on when good jump last, ridden and went second final 110yds, did well in the circumstances (op 5/2 tchd 3/1)'
There was a strong word for this, he was backed from 11/4 into 13/8 in the few mins before the race, he jumped the first two like he hadn't been schooled at all, and there was a fence about 4/5 out where he literally didn't pick up and ploughed through the roots of the fence, without doubt one of the most novicey performances from a novice I've ever seen and to only get beat a length just added insult to injury.
Horse clearly has plenty of talent...

Was like his front and back end weren't connected
Being a flat bred by lope de vega perhaps it was no surprise
Back over Hurdles then hopefully. He's one I considered a decent Stayers outsider especially with Thyme Hill going chasing and Sporting John disappointing.

Seen it and had money down Ista.. was an absolutely unbelievable performance in the circumstances and looks like plenty had their money down too. He actually banked 2 fences in a row down the back and then absolutely sky'ed the next, looked like he was going to be pulled up but jockey kept with it, remarkable effort really and if he can get his act together jumping wise, he's definitely one who will pick up a nice pot.

Absolutely, I don't think the RP has enough characters for an accurate commentary for each jump, it was comical at times.
Not the easiest riding fee Daryl Jacob would have earned in his career...
