Only mentions those heading to Galway really. It’s a Galway & Goodwood preview so depends if that’s of interest to you. The Nick Rockett question was snuck in really

Just watched the whole thing through

Frank Hickey asked Patrick Mullins what he thought of Nick Rockett, as his form tied into a horse he fancies as ‘well in’ for Day 6 at Galway (THECOMPANYSERGEANT, 2.30pm Galway Saturday week 2M6F Listed Euro 65,000 HcapH).

Patrick probably caught on the hop with that question, then said

He had won some Graded races in the spring, and do I think he’s a Grade 1 horse? - probably not. But he’s a solid Grade 2 horse.

I wouldn’t get too bothered about the comment.

He has only ran in 2 hurdles (in a month), and won that Grade 2 by 15 lengths on his 2nd start.

If anyone looks at the Willie Mullins Grade 1 Novice Hurdlers last year, there were plenty.

Facile Vega - TWO Grade 1 wins (2 Miles)
Il Etait Temps - ONE Grade 1 win (2 Miles)
Champ Kiely - ONE Grade 1 win (2M4F)
Impaire Et Passe - TWO Grade 1 wins (2M4F and 2M5F)
Gaelic Warrior - ONE Grade 1 win (3M)
Ashroe Diamond - ONE Grade 1 win (2M4F)

Throw in the Juvenile Hurdlers you have these Grade 1 4yo Hurdles winners

Gala Marceau - TWO Grade 1 wins (2M and 2M4F)
        Lossiemouth - TWO Grade 1 wins (2M)
        Zenta - ONE Grade 1 win (2M)

So overall the stable won 13 Grade 1 Novice and Juvenile Hurdles with 9 individual horses.

The way I see it, there’s 9 Grade 1 hurdlers there, and to be comparable as a Hurdler, Nick Rockett would’ve needed more runs, and a crack at a Grade 1.

If you look at his RPR of 148 on his 2nd hurdles start, that shows he’s a quality horse, and better after just two hurdles than many of the recent BANC winners were.

Question: after two hurdles runs what RPR did the last 10 BANC winners have

        The Real Whacker 138
        LHomme Presse 129
        Monkfish 145
        Champ 138
        Topofthegame 139
        Presenting Percy 114
        Might Bite 139
        Blacklion 142
        Don Poli 129
        O’Faolains Boy 136

So if we are profiling staying Novice Chasers after their novice hurdle season, then maybe connections of most of the above at the end of the season (not after two runs) would’ve been happy described as
probably not Grade 1, but solid Group 2

Incidentally the last 7 of them were, a
t the end of the season before they won the BANC

        * The Real Whacker - Grade 2 NovH runner-up

        * L’Homme Presse - No Graded NovH runs

        * Monkfish - Won Grade 1 NovH on his 3rd start

        * Champ - Grade 1 NovH winner

        * Topofthegame - Coral Cup 2nd, no Grade NovH places

        * Presenting Percy - Won Pertemps Final off 146, No Graded NovH wins

        * Might Bite - No Graded NovH placed

So to be completely fair you don’t have to be proven as a Grade 1 horse, before you start chasing to Win the BANC.

Even though we may prefer to back proven top class horses, stepping into novice chases.

I had a bunch of similar stats for my pending write up for Walking On Air for the BANC. Hurdle rating means absolute squat when trying to find the winner.

Steeped in class, the undefeated Jigme, trained by Marcel Rolland, will stand at stud next year at Haras du Hoguenet.

Also requested win today and Supreme price, should be available tomorrow a.m.

I had a go at 33/1 before his bumper debut, he had alot
of hype surrounding his debut id like to think hell be top class

Yepp Willie doesn't run his best horses this time of year, as simple as that really

yeah his debut run was quite workmanlike, and i think the only horse that willie had out this time of year that turnt into a good one was champ kiely
