  • Been out for a liquid lunch but where trainers were running out of time to get runs into horses will they start sending the better ones out early so to take that problem out the equation? Or am I talking San Miguel?

    • Monkfish.. do we think he's going to be anywhere near what he previously was?

I would love to see him come back and win the Stayers Hurdle this year.

Where do people think he'll go if he's still in training?

On his comeback in april against asterion forlonge at 2.4 he looked like he retained some ability and would improve after it, but then over 3 miles a few weeks later back at punchestown he finished tailed off and didnt look right, i personally wouldnt be backing him for anything right now

Yeah I watched both of those races, and backed him in the latter when he lost. I wonder if it was just the bounce factor in the second run, but I'd be keen to see what the plans are, I'd imagine he'd stay hurdling if he's still going to race to put less stress on his joints, he's obviously a fragile horse

My worry would be if Gaelic Warrior stays hurdling as the forum seems to believe, why would Ricci have two in the Stayers Hurdle when it's openly known the Gold Cup is the race he wants to win and both couldgo chasing to allow that to possibly happen.

            • Aye, Monkfish running over hurdles would be a sign he's not back imo. Pissed in in the RSA and looked a future Gold Cup winner before his injury. Bringing him back as a staying hurdler when they already have Gaelic Warrior in there would be a poor indicator to me.

Not that I could back him in a Gold Cup now either though. But it'd be great to see him back. 'Only' be 10 by this year's festival and low mileage. Get him in the Betfair market and see what happens...

              • Monkfish has a hurdle rating of 152, which is very workable, they've kept the horse in training for a reason and although he'll be 10 come March if they keep him sound there'll be a handicap for him somewhere off that mark...

Is that our first tip for the Pertemps already?

Big engine yes, but I wouldn't be going overboard personally. His main market rival failed to fire, he was receiving 7lbs from Samui who made an absolute hash of the 2nd last and he wouldn't be a proper winter graded horse at all.

Agree with most of that, but why not a graded winter horse though? He looks like he wouldnt be out of place

In regards to Samui that was not being a winter graded horse Ray

He looked pretty decent there albeit a low grade race. As he didn't come through points he's probably going to improve a fair bit so it's another one for JP and Mullins to go to war with in the better races when the season really starts. Connections and Breeding will mean he's likely to be over bet going forward now.
