If that was the situation, eg Cheltenham in Tier 4 then presumably it would be touch and go also as to whether the Irish horses / staff would be permitted to travel over. Really hoping that a Festival behind closed doors doesn't also become a UK only festival.

    • Very few GB horses travel to Ireland generally for the big festival meetings. It wouldnt change the racing quality there anyway. But vice versa it would lessen the Fez. It wont be a normal 2021 Cheltenham sadly.
Back the GB horses...it will pay I think

If Irish horse’s weren’t allowed to travel I think they would first look to postpone and then potentially even cancel. I’m sure Cheltenham wouldn’t want to do the latter but can’t think how the bookies would resolve this issue as there is little chance they won’t void all bets on Irish horses (same as Monalee at Christmas), but then they’ll be massively over exposed on their British runners. I suppose it depends somewhat on how much they take antepost compared to on the day.

          • Would they cancel the Dublin festival for the same travel ban situation

No but purely from a betting perspective they wouldn’t have taken 100s of thousands (I imagine) on antepost bets on British runners. Obvs I’m making an assumption that the bookies will want to have some input in this decision, which may be misguided.

Good point. And would they reimburse anyone who had backed a UK horse antepost?
If they didn’t then they’d be on a sticky wicket trying to void bets at Cheltenham on UK horses.

                • I like an even playing field and fair play but if I'm bowled a googly Im going to hit it for a six. Ive plenty of ante post bets but I think a few GB only multis would be a good idea.
Regarding the betting industry ,wouldn't they refund all bets affected by the non attendance? They must honour those qualified bets that are struck in accordance with ante post rules I presume.

IMO they should and would return ALL ante post bets, Irish and English, if the Irish didn't travel. I wouldn't be interested at all in a festival without the Irish. They should cancel it all together if that happened

                      • I take it then that you wouldn't bet on the Dublin Festival Lobos

With respect Lobos the festival is about a wider audience than you and if you believe bookies will refund all bets should the Irish not travel then you are mistaken, you might think that would be a sensible action on their part but I can guarantee you this would not happen...

I imagine from a T&C perspective they wouldn’t technically have to void but the uproar would be so immense they would have little choice
