If memory serves me right, there was only a day apart between both events. Patrick is employed by the Racing Post, Ruby is on the Paddy Power payroll, they are encouraged to make comments. Sometimes those comments can be really good snippets of info, other times less so. This year, both Patrick and Willie have been on the button with Facile Vega, last year Ruby was very keen to support Allaho when he blotted his copybook pre Christmas. This year he has been very keen on Sir Gerhard. That looks solid info although it is not a surprise.

Methingks the preview night circuit is going to be particularly interesting this year.

      • What are the GDC backers hoping to see from BMG today? Doesn't really feel right willing a good horse to lose, but I'd settle for him showing at least one or two flaws in his jumping...

Personally I’d still like to see a good performance so Willie needs one of his best horses (GDC) to win the race. Hopefully then taking capodanno out of the picture altogether and keeping him in the NHC.

what other options does Willie have for this that are capable of winning?

He should be winning comfortably today if he's to be competitive at the Fez. Can't quite believe his price?? Thought he'd be around 4/9. He'll not get beat.

A fair few without GDC. Capodanno, Stattler, GDM

Maybe. I don't think that fits with the "Willie send his best horses to the race they are most likely to win" thought though. If BMG bombs, surely that makes GDC more likely to win the RSA and increaes the chance he comes here?

Tbf there’s 2 sides to the coin and I fully get your point. Based on your opinion I really hope he bombs out then!

                    • Well, he didn't bomb. Not foot perfect this time but still can't really question his jumping. Still has to be that question mark whether he gets home in a fast run 3m on an undulating track.

Marked up I guess for still performing well given stable malaise.

                      • He's very good to be fair. Seemed to get too close to one in the straight and lost the lead but eased back into it despite all the weight he was giving away. Thought that was impressive myself.

                        • Proper horse - absolutely loved how he just dossed right past them again after his slight mistake.

                          • That wouldn't frighten me too much as a GDC backer.

I know he was giving weight away but didn't really length away

                            • Very interesting immediately post race from Cobden" I learnt a lot and that will change our tactics for Cheltenham". Suggests will not go from the front.

                              • A very good horse, who clearly wasn't fully fit to my eye there. Wouldn't want him ahead of GDC but the gap is a lot closer than I thought...
