Same! I've made a decent sized profit and had a good record in the race over the years.

      • I love the race, and have banked on it for a few years now.
But also backed it to be the race that got culled, so about time they made a decision at least.

        • They'll all end up in the Marsh Chase v Envoi now. 28 runner cavalry charge.

Yep, but unfortunately a bigger field for the Marsh increases the risk of less talented horses falling or getting in Envoi's way.

They'll end up in the Festival Plate over 2m 5f. Novices can do well in that race and provided the winner last year.

And that race gives them way more wiggle room on with their mark too as there is less risk of being balloted out. You could have a whole host of novices running in the Plate off lower marks than they would have needed in the novice race.

                • The handicap range was a joke anyway. Top to bottom was just about the effect of a poor jump.

                  • Think majority of them will run in handicap hurdles at the fez.

                    • The Novice Handicap Chase seemed the most likely after Close Brothers did the late switch to the Mares Hurdle last March.

I’m not sure there is any need at all for a Limited Handicap Chase of 145, for Novices or otherwise, at the Festival.
It ends up with stilted campaigns for novice chasers trying to stay under 145, and Gordon Elliott trying to guess what his novice chasers ratings would be.

This leaves just the Martin Pipe as the only Limited handicap at 145 max, for Conditionals, which is an open handicap hurdle and not just for novices.
"Journeys to Glory, breathing in his head".

As in they'll go novice chasing all season and then revert to handicap hurdles at the festival?

Bit too free with the use of the word majority I reckon.
                          And insufficient use of logic.

They'll probably pop up all over the place.
RSA, Marsh, Arkle, Handicap chases, Handicap hurdles.
Or just run in the rescheduled race, and go for a bonus (if there is one)

The ball-ache for antepost punters is another immediate pre-festival race that could provide a spanner.

                          • I think Ive seen a few people talking about Lieutenant Rocco on this thread (possibly another!) but I am led to believe he has left Colin Tizzard to join Willie Mullins.

                              Welcome,

Who or what led you to believe that ?

                              • Thank you for the welcome.

Just something I had been told - thought would be interesting for the people who had spoken about it. Willie would have a strong team of novice chasers next season and this would be another.
