2017 Cheltenham Gold Cup

I'd probably be thinking about retiring him. Really doesn't need to come back and win anything to be remembered for what he did ....

Still only 9 so unless there's been a big setback I'm not expecting them to be considering retirement.

Real shame if Coneygree doesn't make it again, having never had the chance to defend his crown.

The main thing though is his wellbeing and they are right not to rush him. I've always wanted to see him in a Hennessey actually as I think he looks made for that style of race. Who knows, perhaps he'll drop a couple of pound in the handicap for a tilt next winter?

Looks like the last two Champions may not even make it then. It's a tough old race, and why multiple winners are so special.

Haha completely forgot his age.

Confirmed coneygree is out of the race, not even entered for it now, definitely a sizeable dent to my book, Thistlecrack is the one now, and I have nibbled at don cossack at 12's as a saver, big price if he is back, but yet again another injured animal

As others have already said on here Djakadam at 14-1 is surely great value in this race. Thistle crack is the stand out native river is far too short for me Don cossack has to prove his well being and cue card looks like he may go Ryanair. I know they've suggested Djakadam may go the Ryanair route but I can't see it myself and with his jumping seemingly improved he's one of the most overpriced horses in any of the championship races.

I agree totally.

I just don't get the love for Djakadam. Can anyone explain how he is going to win this race? Tried twice, failed twice.

I don't think he will win if Thistlecrack jumps round, but there's always a chance he will fall and personally I can't see anything else finishing ahead of Djakadam. I just think he's rock solid in a race that could cut up quite a lot.

He'll surely have an entry in the Ryanair as well so might not turn up either. Agree about the race cutting up though.

Betfair have the betting without market up for the gold cup and djakadam is 9/1, so if you think he will come second again then you're on to a 9/1 winner which I think is great value, don Cossack is 5/1 without which I have already taken a chunk on and native river only 3/1 without

The only horses to have beaten him won't be running in it. Coneygree gone, R2R and DC won't make it...

Thistlecrack falls. Djakadam had a better prep than last years fall and is at the right age to improve.

I am not a huge fan but wouldn't be so dismissive. I think he will certainly be in the frame which strikes me as a decent poke.

I still think there's not enough love for the 4m form from last year, Minella Rocca has every right to go closer than a few at the head of market if he were to be sure to run...

Native River 6/1? Bleugh.
I'm not sure which odds I hate more, those or Fox Nortons.

MR does still seem under the radar, but SL have put him up today so might contract a bit?

Three horses have beaten him already in Gold Cups. He couldn't win one of the weakest renewals in recent memory so I just can't see how he improves enough to win this year.

Horses that have tried and failed have a terrible record in the race and I personally couldn't go near him. Plenty like him though so it might just be me.

What is stopping this being a weak renewal? If Thistlecrack beats Native River, will it be a great result? The performance might be, but this race isn't any stronger than some of the other divisions...?

My arguement would be only THistlecrack is stopping this being a poor gold cup again.. bring Djakadam right back in to it....

Take Douvan out of the CC and what are we left with.... that looks the same as this race to me...

There'll be more depth to this years race than a few recent renewals, people just haven't scoured the unfashionable entries.
Zabana and Minella Rocco at big prices entitled to go close...

I've backed both at 50/1 (maybe 40 Zabana?) ..... but if either of those did win, people wouldn't think it was a vintage Gold Cup.

Unfashionable like The Giant Bolster and On His Own.... I backed China Rock one year :'(

You only ever really appreciate the depth of any renewal about 12 months later.

Cold sweats there Kev, I had the Bolster to pay off the mortgage the year he jumped the second last a length up....

I just can't see him winning Kev, that's all. Even if Thistlecrack underperforms I'd be disappointed if Djakadam won the race.

I backed China Rock too
