2017 Cheltenham Gold Cup

Outlander 16/1 shouldn't be overlooked. Seems to be improved over the longer trip in new hands and will be GH / Giginstown main focus now.

Another overpriced is Blaklion 50/1 on spring ground and course form.

Got Blaklion at 40s, YES haha.

I can't believe Djakadam hasn't shortened yet. I am definitely going in again. I think he is a better horse than Native River and on TImeform ratings if Cue Card doesn't turn up it is hard to make an arguement for him to be out of the 3!

A real shame for the race. Thistlecrack aside the championship races this year are really lacking depth and superstars :(

I just hope IF TC does go onto the race we don't have everyone knocking the win saying he won a poor renewal and take away the achievement.

As soon as I heard the news of Don Cossack I rushed to see what price Djakadam expecting him to go to single figures but shocked he's still at 14's! VERY surprising

Looking for an each way double to put him in now...

Let's Dance/Djakadam? ;) Same day, same colours... easy to know which one to cheer on :very_drunk:

with 365 - It works out at evens for Djakadam to place and obviously if he wins you're laughing... but he will be going off single figures... this is such an obvious bet surely!

Not sure of the reliability, but someone on the Betfair forum has posted this:

Ricci on Djakadam when interviewed by the RP: "Djakadam would be entered in the Ryanair and that option would be considered if it was quicker ground but he would be heading to the Gold Cup if it was soft."

Anyone else see these comments?

Mullins has only djakadam and VVM entered in gold cup. The mare will have the most unorthodox prep of all time if she turns up. Djakadam heads for Gold Cup surely.

I never listen to anything Ricci says, I have him down as an attention seeker who loves the camera/mike, he has plenty of form for misleading people....

Can't believe Mullins hasn't entered Champagne Fever, this one will probably end up in the Grand Annual !

Looks like plenty of those declared are using the race as prep for the National...

Would have to echo that.

VVM more likely to run in the Ryanair than Djakadam too... I just can't see them switching.

Mullins has said and been quoted as saying Djakadam will go straight to the Gold Cup.... now he doesn't normally name a target, but when he does (without mentioning another target) then I have no reason to doubt that.

With the Vautour situation I don't think you'd find a quote where he didn't say he'd be in both from Mullins, but as ISta says, Ricci is a different kettle of fish for whatever reasons!

A couple of days ago I mentioned on here that betfair have the betting without thistlecrack market and I took a chunk on djakadam at 9/1, this looks like absolutely stunning value now in my eyes, only has to finish 2nd to thistlecrack which I feel he is most likely to and we're onto a 9/1 winner for 2nd place!!

Yeh I think thats a brilliant bet...

I've seen PP are currently 11/2 for Djakadam (1/5 odds) for top 3 without Thistlecrack too..... if anyone is interested. I think he'll be in the top 3, so top 4 is pretty good too haha

That was a huge price mate, im on Thistlecrack 5pts at 6/1 so I havent looked for many prices in this market. That wouldve been a great bet had I noticed it. Would anyone recommend a saver on something or just stick with what I have?

I backed Djakadam each way at 9/1 (w/o) after seeing it on here. I can well see him finishing runner up behind Thistlecrack again.

Still 5/1 available. I wouldn't worry about being beaten in the Lexus. Mullins winning record in the race is terrible but he has won the Irish Hennessy countless times proving his staying chasers peak after Christmas.

Minella Rocco on track for the Irish Gold cup according to Jonjo. On SL website. That's good news

Cue Card confirmed for the Gold cup!

Although Bishop admits odds-on Gold Cup favourite Thistlecrack will be tough to beat, she said Cue Card might not have been at his best at Kempton and deserves another crack at the showpiece contest, in which he fell three out last year with all to play for.

“We’re going for the Gold Cup,” she said. “We’ve had a talk about it and that’s what we’ve decided.

“Now we’ve made our minds up we haven’t got to keep talking about it. That’s what we’re going to do. I don’t know what the opposition will be, but he deserves to go and take his chance.

“Paddy [Brennan] thinks the ground might have been a factor in the King George. We got to Kempton early and they gave the going as good, and I thought then it might not be on his side. Paddy said it was the same as at Wetherby and he wasn’t at his best there. If he wasn’t at his best at Kempton, he actually did well to finish second.

“They are reasons rather than excuses. Probably the ground was too dry for him. And horses can be fine one day and not so fine the next, can’t they? He seemed to bounce back when he got home, so it might have been that he had an off day.”

Cue Card finished three and a quarter lengths behind the eased-down Thistlecrack and a short head in front of third-placed Silviniaco Conti. He is due to have his next start in the Betfair Ascot Chase on February 21.

Bishop continued: “I don’t know if there’s a horse that can live with Thistlecrack, but all his career Cue Card has never run away from anything. His races have always been strong races.

“Gold Cup day will be exactly seven years since he won the Bumper, and he does like Cheltenham.

“I’d rather him go and have a try there than go for something else. I expect it will be his last chance of going for the Gold Cup. He’ll do his best and we’ll see how it goes.”

That's excellent news for the race and not for my thistlecrack or Djakadam bets haha

He deserves as much. Got a link to the article mate?

Proper order to give Cue card his chance.

Jonjo talking about Minella Rocco as a national horse so might not show.

Great news. Especially for Tizzard to train the 1-2-3 at 12/1 backers :encouragement:

In an interesting spot now, might as well let the world see my workings and get some opinions/advice.

I have got 28 points on the Gold Cup (26 still "live" had 2 on Don Cossack). For the purposes of this I am not including any multiples because they'll probably be dead by the time this race rocks up. :highly_amused:

Each way
16 points for Djakadam place / 73 for a Djakadam win
5.5 points for Outlander place / 25 for an Outlander win
6.75 points for Cue Card place/ 39 for a Cue Card win
12.5 points for Minella Rocco place/ 63 for a MR win
9.25 points for Blaklion place/ 43.25 for a Blaklion win
6 points for Alary to place/ 27 for an Alary win
5.5 points for Don Poli place/ 31 for a Don Poli win

Win Only
45 points back for a Thistlecrack win
20 points back for a Zabana win
12.5 points back for a Native River win

I've mentioned my approach to certain BIG races where the market is formed so far in advance in the WH thread so I won't go over it again, and I accept the position I am in and strategy probably won't be everybodies cup of tea. In my defence I would say I've been fortunate that I didn't fancy Coneygree at all and haven't bothered with him, or Vautour or Valsuer Lido at this point! Of course, the contraction of Thistlecracks price is also 'lucky' enough.

Now I hadn't actually sat and looked at my full market position in this race at all until tonight. I better add as well, that all things being equal, I'd make sure whichever horse I fancied the most (Thistlecrack!), would win me the most by the off! It is currently Djakadam, however by the Friday with the multiples that I have I'd hope at least one or two are still live and worth a few points!

Main weakness is obviously that I have missed any sort of price on Native River for significant return. Hesitated after the Hennesey and Welsh National and then though 8 was too short! Now 5 and 6s. Also could consider not having Thistlecrack to place isn't ideal because if he is beaten, I am only getting the 'place' money for one horse.

I am comfortable I'd get a big enough price on the day to cover anything else in the market on the day because I can't see any HUGE shake up for any horse that I haven't backed, with the exception of VVM but she just won't turn up and if she does I'll let me 8 points at 11/4 ride and include them in my total stakes for this race.

I can't seem to weight up whether any of the specials will help me either. I WAS considering the 4/6 on Tizzard before Cue Card was declared a sure runner but didn't take it and that is now 8/15.

Any opinions, critisism or advice welcomed...
