Thought he stayed fine but did he not hang badly up the hill? Haven't watched it back yet.

Yeah he hung right, not as bad as Might Bite though Straightened quickly enough but a little concern.

Should have enough race experience now, and remains a big player imo
….Cobden delighted afterwards, said Nicholls has left more in for March.

        • Is it just me that was disappointed by SAF? Beaten easily by a Mullins 8th string that isn’t even entered in the gold cup and an out of form the real whacker. Can’t see him winning a banc after that maybe he’s a NHC horse after all

Capodanno is a 159 horse and he's been beaten 3 lengths giving him 3lb

So today was a massive personal best from SAF who was 150 going into it

Certainly done his chances no harm

You'd say his vulnerable too a clasier type like fact to file though

If he improves for today he shouldn't be far away

Not at all. A Mullins horse having his cup final, as could be seen in the betting. And a SAF that has improvement left in him.

Great performance as a novice I reckon. And I'm more confident that he'll win the BANC now.

I was a little disappointed as he looked to be going really well turning for home and then didn't seem to stay as well as I thought he would. However, Cobden seemed really happy with the run and said that Nicholls had left more to work on and that SAF had taken a blow before staying on again which expalins why he didn't finish as strongly as I had hoped. He's still has a strong chance in the BANC imo.

Not disappointing in my opinion at all.

                  • SAF ran well in open company, and has gone more than the other novices heading to the BANC.
Sounds like they have left a bit for March, so we'll see

                    • I’m not sure, I expected him to put these away today if he’s a future gold cup contender. Maybe it’s an average bunch of novices this year. I won’t be going in again

I did also expect him to win today but with hindsight that was a very decent performance, it's certainly not put me off him for the banc.

                        • I thought Stay Away Fay was good today. He definitely hung right after the last before rallying so would've finished a lot closer without that.

I guess the main question I am asking myself is whether I would back Fact To File to beat Capodanno or The Real Whacker if they lined up tomorrow? I'm not sure I have decided yet!

On a line through The Real Whacker he's bang there at last years BANC and I'm not sure anyone is thought of higher than GC was last year?
