  • Well if you really fancy him fair enough, go for it.
Personally, rather than take odds for State Man, I would look for a horse of similar odds that don’t have to beat a total freak.
    And just watch the CHurdle.
I do like to bet every race, but leaving this one alone, apart from some Acca’s I’ve done.

Well you never know in this game
I just want both horses to run at their peak.
Love to see a 180 performance or better!!

        • Am sure its been somewhere before when talking tactics and how to beat CH.

How do you beat a good horse, lead from the front and hope it can't pass you?

CH always been a very prominent if not front running. State Man the opposite, usually (County and CH 2023 for sure).

SM went from the front when Vauban/Honeysuckle were threats previously. Get SM out in front of CH this year and he's a 2s shot in my eyes.

IF CH gets there 100% then CH wins.

Whilst I would agree it’s going to take the performance of a lifetime from ‘another horse’ and the two main protagonists will have to run 10-15 lb’s below their normal runs, it might be worth taking people back to the Champ Hurdle of 2019.

That one was simply a 3 horse race between Beveur D’Air, Apple’ Jade & Laurina.

One of them never made it even halfway round and the other 2 never placed.
As true as this is the might actually end up a 2 horse race the way things are going

Anthony Bromley, racing manager for owners Simon Munir and Isaac Souede, said: “The feeling after Daryl (Jacob) rode him the other day was that we need to keep him to two and a half miles and there isn’t a two-and-a-half-mile race at Cheltenham. We’ll wait for Aintree and see if we can get him sparkling again.

“We don’t feel he’s reached the form that he was showing last year, so the idea is to wait for Aintree and if he’s not sparkling going into Aintree we’ll just wait for novice chasing next season.

“We can’t see either race at Cheltenham being what needs at this moment. Two miles looks too short and we don’t want to go three miles at this stage.

“Daryl was adamant to go two and a half at Aintree and freshen him up for that.”

Impaire Et Passe is one of four horses scratched from the Champion Hurdle along with his stable companion Vauban, James Owen’s high-class juvenile Burdett Road and the Henry de Bromhead-trained Bob Olinger, who also appears bound for Aintree after splitting State Man and Impaire Et Passe when second in the Irish Champion Hurdle on Sunday.

              • Daryl a good team player isn't he! Done himself out of a Champion Hurdle ride and may not even get to ride him at Aintree, unless Willie sends something else fancied there as well.

At least we know he is a Turners horse next year

Haha, well Fact To File would have beaten him anyway so don't worry about it

Whilst I don't want CH to lose as I'm heavily into him with 25+ multiples, that performance from State Man for me was the best I've seen of him. As you say, CH is coming here off the back of a slightly unsuitable preparation and his last two runs have both been below what he achieved in the Champion Hurdle. Yes he really should still be plenty good enough to beat State Man again this year but I get the feeling it really won't be as comfortable.

To be honest until we actually get an opponent good enough to push him, we probably won’t see the best of CH.
Hes ridden to win races and prolong his career.

Maybe State Man, who I also think has improved, will make CH have do more to win, and we might actually get to see what he is like when he’s properly asked.
                            That could be some sight.

                            • What would people make the over/under on runners this year? It feels like thie has the potential to cut up into a ridiculously small field.

                                I reckon 6.5

Be enough scared off by thinking Con Hill and State Man have the first 2 places covered

But then Willie will probably throw a random dart to try pick up pieces

and then a few UK trainers with no where else to go and could pick up prize money
