Went Royal Bond, and won with Airlie Beach, before she ran no race in the Mares Novice on the day.

I wonder if she'll actually take up the engagement against Facile, I, personally, doubt it, but this is Willie, so who knows.

I'd have thought future novices over Christmas probably ridden by Danny Mullins, then Solerina.

I'm fine with her competing at the very top level against the boys before being thrown back in against mares in March.

All that experience will stand her in good stead and I've been thinking about backing her solely for that reason. 8/1 seems fair.

Luccia is a worthy favourite but you do wonder what she'll learn being campaigned in the typical sparing fashion that Nicky likes.

Luccia is going to the tolworth? About as top level as you can find this side of the Irish Sea before Cheltenham

The fact willie ran her in the royal bond would suggest to me he has better mares at home. I think he has ran 3 mares in the previous 10 royal bonds prior to this years renewal, of them 3 he had 2 winners statuaire and airlie beach both of whom went on to finish well beaten in the mares novice hurdle, more importantly neither were considered mullins first string for the mares novice.

Yep, hardly sparing running in the only grade 1 2m nov hurdles race in Britain
                outside Cheltenham of course

Plan is for her to run against Facile atm anyway.

Some Grade 1 Black Type to add to her book, isn’t a bad move, if FV scares most of the rest of them away.

Not dissimilar to Luccia, why not take in a mid-season Grade 1 with a Mare, and receive 7lb.
Grade 1 win or place, for her, would mean an awful lot to her owners.
Particularly as the MNH at Cheltenham is only a Grade 2.

Exactly - dead right to take there chance.
Facile the only one she couldn't get the better of in there.

                      • Would Luccia have to carry a penalty for this if she were to win the Tolworth?

Is the 5lb penalty not for horses who have won any graded race ?

I know there's lots of chat about her on the novice hurdlers thread but if she were to win do you think that might sway them more to the Supreme than this?

Yes I believe it is for winning any graded race. Statuaire won the Royal Bond last year and was given 5lb penalty for MNH
