  • Jonbon by some distance the best jumper of a fence over the couple of WM horses we have seen. Clearly at least 1 of them will be in Arkle, but both looked like a trip will suit.

    • Not like their novices and need experience or anything like that. Only reason I can think is they had a hard race on heavy ground at Gowran and need more time to get over the race. Would hope to see them both run again prior to Flogas at DRF

      • Jonbon 3m 59 seconds at Sandown (5lb less)

        • GDM to the BANC is looking more likely which isn't good for me

From entries the Neville could be GdM v TSL with winner feeling more likely to end up in the BANC.

            • APPRECIATE IT given a 154rpr for his chasing debut.

That compares well with the debut numbers posted by Willie's 4 Arkle winners.

              DUC DES GENIEVRES 149
              FOOTPAD 155
              DOUVAN 153
UN DE SCEAUX 149 (fell 3 out when clear) and posted 151 on his second outing.

JONBON posted 159 on his chasing debut.

And that figure compares well with Hendo's last 4 Arkle winners.

              SHISHKIN 160
              ALTIOR 160
              SIMONSIG 145
              SPRINTER SACRE 154

Still think it's not very easy to compare numbers for Irish and English form.

But what the figures do seem to indicate are that both Appreciate It and Jonbon have the potential to be top quality Arkle winners.

It'll be interesting to see what El Fabiolo is given.

For what it's worth, I think Appreciate It is a certainty to go to the Arkle while El Fabiolo's jumping in his next outing may be the main factor that determines whether he goes Arkle or steps up in trip.

Could quite easily see Willie deciding to put two up against Jonbon if his charges are pretty closely matched.

2 runs is the max Willie usually has into his winter team by the turn of the year.

Then it still gives him 9 weeks to step into Graded company, before then end of February, and stake a claim for his place in a Festival Grade 1 (over 3M or a midtrip).
I have M.Cocooner backed in both races , R.s.a and turners , So Been watching the entries with interest.
I saw the price for the 3m was a lot lot shorter than the 2m 3f over christmas ,and now no entry over shorter ...
so was wondering if this was any indication the r.s.a more likely. ..... ??.

                • It's incredibly difficult to rate a novice chaser on a single run and it's one of the times when RPR would be fully justified in retrospective adjustment.

For anyone taking form literally, El Fabiolo beat Colonel Mustard by 19 lengths and that one was given 137 for his debut in November.

I don't see any entries over xmas for him or Classic Getaway.

Time to grab the value on Chemical Energy or Ramillies maybe ? GDM still a very backable price for the BANC as well.

                      • I love Gerri colombe for the BANC. I think that he’ll take the same route as Farouk d’alene last season. He needs a trip to be seen at his best, but the ground is the determining factor as to where he runs over Xmas. With Gordon having fil d’or and hollow games for the 2 mile novice, TSL is left with hobsons choice and could go 3 miles. I don’t see him as BANC horsethough

                        • James Du Berlais is the one still to come out that massively interests me for either the Turners or BANC, tbh.

I see he's entered up alongside I Am Maximus of Willies too, in the race that Galopin Des Champs bolted up in last season at Leopardstown.

I'm also interested in JDB, could be a belting race though given Gentlemansgame and allegorie de vassy are also entered. Would surprise me if ADV ran against one of Willie's boys though

Same. But more and more I am thinking Turners now. I mentioned it earlier in the season, but I can't get Willie's comment re his quick jumping out of my head and marrying that with his comments re GDC last year - "why would I want to dampen his jumping by extending his trip" (or words to that effect) - I really do think he'll stay over the midtrip. Now with this entry too ...

ADV also entered in the 2m6f mares chase, so would imagine that's where she'll end up.
