As someone who went all four days for many years I find it difficult to fault any of them - they are all absolutely spellbinding.
Agree entirely that the atmosphere is electric when the tapes go up on day one - the smile on almost everyone‘s face when they arrive at the track, the best four days of the year are finally here.
But thinking back on my favourite Festival memories over the best part of 50 years (gulp) many centre on some absolutely epic Gold Cups. It’s top of the bill for a reason.
Sure it gets pretty crowded on GCD and it’s easier to get about on the Wednesday and Thursday.
And sure some people turn up on GCD to be seen or get smashed. We purists may claim that’s a waste of a ticket. But each to their own, there’s room for them all, it’s always possible to find a great spot to watch the action.
For me, all four days may be different in character but only in that they are served up like the four courses of the most delicious meal money can buy.Last edited by nortonscoin200; 14 January 2022, 05:15 PM.

.
Since then of course they’ve upgraded the course and moving between parade ring and course seem much easier than they were so this year I’ll be doing all four again and looking forward to it hugely.
I think there’s very few events in sport that better the Tuesday, which for most start much earlier than 1.30pm, the hotels and pubs at breakfast are buzzing, bars near the course etc, it really it a great feeling of anticipation especially for FJs with our ante post books.
This year will be special, missing out on last year hurt us all, the year after foot and mouth was special and the beast that is the festival is much bigger now….

There's nothing in the World like the roar when the Supreme's off & you have that feeling of "there's no place I'd rather be right now" being stood amongst the masses watching the cavalry charge to the first! They've massively improved the setup on the Friday now too - that Imperial Commander day was horrific, was completely drenched.
There on Tuesday & Friday this year, can't bloody wait! Looking forward to meeting some of you reprobates finally too...

Totally agree about the Tuesday. I also used to love the Monday night. Arriving in the town, and getting a quiet pint or two and talk about the week to come. Used to go to all 3, then 4 days, but the Friday just got too uncomfortable.
Circumstances change, though, and haven't been able to get there for the last 8 or 9 years. I'll get back one year.
Jealous.
