Fat Jockey Patrons
Fat Jockey is a horse racing community focused on all the big races in the UK and Ireland. We don't charge users but if you have found the site useful then any support towards the running costs is appreciated. Become a Patron!
I think that proves that he hasnt read int anything in any depth.
Seems to rely on one or more of us feeding him information on Whatsapp, and thinks its decent enough quality to give a big shot-out for FJ.
If he isnt a member he cant read the diaries, or race planning sections, only the generally available content - if he could read it all, he would realise how much depth we actually go into.
Bit off here, he's giving the page a shout out and folk still try and crab a reason why He admits to not having the time as so many of us don't. The whole point of a forum is a collective narrative and this place certainly is that, whether that be as contributors or the hundreds of "viewers" who may go on to discuss these topics amongst friends/social media who really cares. We all come to conclusions ourselves but not one person on here can lay claim to not taking ideas/bets from others so see no need to do anything other than see it as a pro for the site and maybe bring in a new member or two.
As owner Kevloaf will be able to offer a more detailed response but there are no plans to apply a mandatory cost to visiting FJ.
There are substantial annual costs to ensure site maintenance etc is performed, there was also the site ugrade around a year ago so Kev created the 'FJ patron' (which is entirely voluntary) for people to make a donation if they wished, the response was outstanding from so many members that these costs were covered and as far as I know the switch will remain on for a while yet.
Costs are obviously ongoing so there may be a gentle reminder at some point when the coffers start emptying.
Just an echo really from me as this is on the nose from Ista.
Straight off the bat, I don't think I'll ever want to charge a fee to join the site. It stems from my own experience, having been a lurker for years before becoming an active poster, and now owner, I know that wouldn't have happened if I'd have had to pay in the first instance. The helpful nature of the site was here long before I joined and will be long after I'm gone I'm sure.
A massive thank-you again to all of the patrons that continue to support us monthly, and to everyone that made donations earlier this year. I love you all...
The individual race threads are up and running..... it starts (again)
He knows the graft that's put in, merely giving the place a decent Nod.

"Bit Off!!!!!!!"
Whats going on here......
I do see it as a plus for the site.
I'm not knocking him, please do not quote me that I appear to be disparaging, I am not.
Maybe you misinterpreted what I posted - "he thinks its decent enough quality to give a big shout-out for Fat Jockey" is a positive.
"if he could read it all, he would realise how much depth we actually go into"
is a positive, there's even more, but he likes us already
My point was, even without delving deeper he has respect for what we do,
and he says he receives valuable into via links to FJ Members, which is great
Nothing was a negative, or meant to be a negative, in what I posted.
Maybe I should write more clearly, or not comment at all

Pistols at Dawn, You know I've plenty of respect for yourself and you " not commenting at all" would go down like a lead balloon so good luck with that....
Maybe I misinterpreted the reply to the original if so apologies, all going in the same direction ultimately so moving swiftly on

If money was an issue, which at the moment it seems like it's not, some form of paid pre-cheltenham preview night on zoom/YouTube or equivalent could prove useful given that's where we all build up to. Over time, this could extend to pre-season/Xmas/post festival if we decided to.
If deemed good enough, I'd be more than happy to put some time into articulating my thoughts on any given race, which could potentially be sold or put out there with advertisements for some forum funding. I don't know how financially viable that kind of stuff is though - or how many people would want to pay to listen to it.
final furlong podcast has its jumpers to follow with Paul Ferguson...I've not got much time for emmitt but his guest are usually pretty good (when he allows them to speak)

I listen to it for Rory Delargy in the main, and you're right, it's the guests usually that make it a worthwhile listen, unless it's Aidan O'Brien which tends to be a masterclass in deflection and saying nothing.....
Rory usually explains his methods well enough that I feel like I'm being educated at the same time.

Thanks Odin - it is something that's being considered.

Is Rory still on there? Not heard him on a pod for a while..
Anyone else having issues with the forum in terms of the order of threads, the bolding (or not) of threads that do or don’t have new posts you haven’t read etc?
