All of this is moot until:

    1) we know by mid-Jan what the fall out from Xmas is (if its horrific then that could torpedo Cheltenham)
    2) the Oxford vaccine is approved (without it the Pfizer one is logistically too tough to get done in time)
    3) a clear scalable route to market is identified for the Oxford vaccine (obviously one depends on the other)

We could really do with the post xmas fallout not being disastrous, but I just don't see it. I see carnage from the 2nd. Big spike around 15th - 20th December, putting public health officials on high alert and the NHS under more pressure. 20th - 30th will be everyone seeing each other, lots completely ignoring government advice. By mid Jan, we will be at 500+ deaths a day and the media will be blaming xmas, young people etc for not obeying the rules.

As far as sporting events go Cheltenham has a large contingent of older race goers, so thousands wouldn't go.

That being said one of the best conversations I had all week this year was with a man in his 80's, hadn't missed a festival for over 50 years and basically said fuck the risk if I die here I'll die happy.

Yep. Waiting until Thursday as numbers are dropping across the country now so giving areas every opportunity to go Tier 1 or 2.

I see see why they don't let you write the prospectus Charlie Joking apart I completely agree.

From the way I interpreted what the PM said, it sounded like many areas would infact be in tier 2 and 3.

Would be nice to grab a cheeky trip to the December meeting though.

Yeah would think so Lobos. Therefore doing the bar sales some damage, unless of course the bar starts selling a bag of chips.

                • If the fez becomes members only, I wonder at what point I’d be able to buy a membership.

As you may remember, I was literally minutes away from buying my membership last time when the government announced sports crowds was now banned (midway through the trials that was) and that the likelihood would be that it would be that way for six months (which was to the end of March at the time).

I hope Cheltenham, in January let’s say, wouldn’t block me getting a membership but i fear that perhaps that would be a genuine possibility.

You could buy a membership definitely up to trials day last years I remember that much, would assume they will take on any membership at present. However loyal members may get preference if reduced capacity possibilly.

Been wondering this myself today. Just no idea at all how many they might have. I imagine there are loads who buy it just for the festival.

SW had all the numbers so somewhere back in this thread will be the answers, but from memory, there were 8000 members and of those I think he said 6000 had the all inclusive (festival) membership.
You have to assume membership numbers for this Winter have increased though...
