No, I don't believe so, I answered your question. You asked how many words would he get out, I said he'd get the whole sentence out. Can't be clearer. Given it had a question mark I believed it not to be rhetorical either.

    So my answer stands

You failed to visualise the scenario correctly and put yourself in that exact position, and got all soppy and romantic as if you were actually the owner of a horse in with a chance at Cheltenham.
Therefore you answered with your heart and not your head.
      And missed the point.

It's like me asking what tactics would you employ if you were Tyson Fury and were preparing to fight Antony Joshua ?
      Your response would have been.......

I'd shit myself and run away.

I would say I made cases for both sides, as a small time owner, and a big outfit like Cheveley Park. If you're asking as though I'm Cheveley Park then of course, Gordon wouldn't get very far after mentioning the Boodles. But I thought I made this clear in my original answer.

I'd hope I'd not be stupid enough to find myself in a position of accepting a fight against Antony Joshua, would be my reply

You're not a small time owner anymore COD, you've just won a grade one.
You need to stand up for yourself more.
You pay the bills. Not Gordon. He's an employee (now a naughty suspended one)

In fact if Gordon tried to soft soap anyone now (after sitting on a dead horse) what would people say.
Might have lost a bit of clout, bless him.

Nothing wrong with being humbled every now and then. Makes you a better person.

          • Surely the only narrative that matters is that Gordon believes if Quilixios turns up in the Triumph the best he can do is finish second. But if Quilixios turns up in the Boodles with top weight and a 7lb claimer Gordon obviously rates highly - then Gordon believes he has a great chance of a win.

Surely any owner - big or small - would rather have a winner at the Festival than finish second best in another race.

And we are talking here about a trainer who has a better handle on saddling handicap winners at the Festival than anyone else.

            • And what if Zanihyr doesn’t travel over well and doesn’t win?

It’s a farce if Q goes to the Boodles.

If he’s well in of 147 then he’s of a level of a Triumph hurdle winner. You need more than a lb or two in hand to win this race.

That completely ignores the competitive and unpredictable nature of Sport and human beings, never mind horses.

And that Gordon is sometimes wrong. Prone to the odd error of judgement shall we say.

It's almost like you're saying it's as simple as painting by numbers.

Not even the best judge in the world could tell you either of those two outcomes this decision would be based upon, would become fact.

I'd rather come second in the triumph than win the boodles. All day long.
It's more about taking the chance then the winning, especially when the chance is a good one.
Especially this year, as it's just another meeting really, outside of the grade 1's.

You are seriously telling me that winning a race that is not a Grade 1 at the Cheltenham Festival this year will be like winning a race at "just another meeting".

                    Yep.
                    Sat at home.
                    No one to celebrate with.
No crowds and no atmosphere or winning enclosure experience.
No going into town after the races and getting hammered, and telling every one you meet you owned the winner. Then doing Karaoke (a full 30 minute set ending in love will tear us apart by Joy Division)

So Yes I'm seriously saying that.

                    What's the difference ?
Bit more money transferred to the bank account (but less than a grade 1 )

edit - forgot that you may get to appear on Telly via a screen within a screen and talk to Ed Chamberlain for 30 seconds.
So not exactly the same I'll give you that.

                    • I must be one of the most forgiving racing fans when it comes to running horses in the race they have the best chance in. If I owned a horse I’d do the same myself, what’s the point in playing for places when you could have a right chance of a winner elsewhere.

but on all form we’ve seen, Quilixios could absolutely win the triumph. Being more than double the price of zanahiyr is just mental IMO, I’ve seen nothing that suggests zanahiyr is twice as likely to win than him. The handicapper only has them 2lbs apart too, which is one jumping mistake at the wrong time. Unless zanahiyr has done something at home that none of us have been witness to, Quilixios absolutely can win this grade 1 and he’d even be my pick to come out on top regardless of price, he hits more stats than zanahiyr does, he’s won the most important trial for this & he shapes like the most likely to relish the new course which is a bit of a unique test.

by all means pick your battles, but at least have some ambition I’d say. If Quilixios does come here, I’d be all for reintroducing the 145 ceiling.

                      • Without looking, name the last 3 winners of the Boodles

Without looking, name the last 3 runners up in the Triumph.

I just did exactly that and named the first 3 easily. I got 1 out of 3 of the runners up, and I wasn't 100% certain I was right until I checked.
Luck is a dividend of sweat. The more I sweat, the luckier I get.

It's the equivalent of Energumene running in the Grand Annual. With a claimer on top.
Cos Nicky says Shishkin is unbeatable.

It looks that way now, but ultimately it wasn't, because Zan & Quilixios were under the same trainer (obviously not now, but the seed has been sowed) whereas Shishkin & Energumene are completely different trainers.

It's more like Fusil Raffles, Chantry House and initially Allart all running in the Marsh (despite it being another G1) because Shishkin is unbeatable which is exactly what he was going to do. Literally running all his other options in a different race to avoid another of his, which is what Gordon was planning. Not the first or last time it will happen.

I think the problem is with the authorities for changing it to be an open handicap myself.

Or more owners having a bit more gumption and being a bit less subservient to trainer bullshit.

All very well respecting the trainer, but there comes a time when you’ve got to see it for what it is.
                              Self serving overriding everything else.

"He seems like a lovely horse and looked very well when he arrived. We’ve decided that he’ll run in the Triumph Hurdle and his form looks to entitle him to a good chance"
