He was wide and blocked off twice up the straight. Fury Road has a much easier trip.

That’s fair and square, Monkfish took the same risk and powered through the gap.

I’ve rewatched the run in a couple of times to make sure I’m happy with what I saw
TH gets in between LE and Monkfish, actually gets on terms with LE but can’t go past him hence why Monkfish closes the door on him, and it is TH not LE who is squeezed
Johnson then switches him out wide, he doesn’t gain on any of the front 3 and probably loses the equivalent of a neck on FR.
A jockey going for a gap and getting the door closed is fair play to me, different to being hampered by a faller etc. For me anyway

Anyone think there’s even a remote chance Song For Someone goes for this?
I felt after Ascot he’d be a right dark horse for this but of course they went down the 2m route at Cheltenham. I’d say it’s clear as day that he isn’t upto winning a Champion Hurdle against an Epatante etc but I’d relish seeing a step up in trip.
Have trainer/owner said anything?

"I’ll try to encourage the owners to enter him for the Champion Hurdle, as he has every reason to be talked of in that class. But if we don’t go down that route the Aintree Hurdle over 2m4f would be right up his street. We don’t have to make any decisions yet. We’re just happy to have a horse of this class."

1) Soft ground is really important to him and these days the ground is always soft on the first day
2) there is plenty of time between Cheltenham and Aintree (his other considered target) this year
3) how often are connections going to have a horse good enough to have a genuine (outside) chance, running in a Champion Hurdle?
EDIT - apologies just realised this is the stayers hurdle thread. Can't see it myself, think its the CH for him.Last edited by Hardy Eustace; 21 December 2020, 10:56 AM.

Usually I’d agree that they should always be racing the best v best when possible but I think I’m happy if Paisley Park and Thyme Hill avoid each other now until March. It’s one all between them and is a good build up to a class race and plenty of opinions and debates in the build up.
