ibthink from memory the soft lead was more towards the end when she quickened and the other contenders were caught out.
but even then I’d agree that she wasn’t stopping
I think the race was slower than Bob who carried a lot more weight
Yeah, the race was slower than the Ballymore.

    Enjoy the film Q

    • I can't imagine why they'd be planning to run in anything other than the Mares Hurdle. She's got both a mark and an RPR that puts her in with a very good chance.

Two horses to beat, one that she has a good record against already, and one that could be a superstar, but has barely seen a racecourse and is completely inexperienced.

In terms of the three strikes and you're out approach, that's fine unless there are reasonable excuses.

Race 1. Over the top and over a trip too far.
Race 2. A race ending mistake, but was still good enough to run on past decent horses.
Race 3. A Grade 2 over trip too short, didn't jump well, but still beat the like of Sceau Royal and Ballyadam.

She won't have the cheekpieces on again until the DRF when she'll run in the Mares Handicap Hurdle, and again in the Mares Hurdle. That'll be to ensure she sparks up at the right time of the season, and she's focused on her hurdles.

In terms of price, Indefatigable ran in the mares handicap hurdle in the last race of the day and finished third with a 33/1 shot in third only beaten a length or so. Her price is now 16/1. HHU ran in a Grade 2 over a trip too short finishing ahead of 148 and 158 rated hurdlers after three or four poor jumps kept her out of contention. She's 33/1 and in my mind can be expected to be much better over the course and distance she won the Coral Cup over, and against horses that will most likely prove to be inferior to the Grade 2 two milers she faced on Saturday.
Luck is a dividend of sweat. The more I sweat, the luckier I get.

      • Maybe the DRF Mares handicap is the handicap plot for HHU before going on to the Mares Hurdle? Irish handicapper tends to be much faster than the UK handicapper at dropping horses...

Plenty of pictures from James Fenton, I had someone who had messaged me with details about her but someone else on here has said that it wasn't accurate so I've disregarded it. I'm sure someone on here has said the plan is Leopardstown on 29th or Haydock so I can only assume all is well.

If that was a plot job then it wasn't a very well executed one, they should take a note in how the masters ,elliott/davy , do it.

                          I here you Lobos.

There's no good thing in the Mares Hurdle which is bound to lead to some discussion each time a Mare in this market runs.

West Side Story - very good, brought a tear to my eye

After jumping the third or fourth last I thought the jockeys in the pack were slow to react to her quickening down the hill and by the time they all started cottoning on she'd gone and was good enough to stay there. Some were still stood up in the saddle and travelling on the bridle approaching the second last and then there's all the scrumagging and some would have been unlucky, the eventual second was definitely caught behind horses for long enough. She still won well and was a deserved winner, but IMO not as good as it looked. Which is unfortunate for her handicap mark.

I believe the jockeys in behind dropped a bollock and let one get away. Having said that, I'm pretty sure no-one would have beaten her, just been closer I reckon.

                            • Her target is the Mares Hurdle. They won't particularly care about how well handicapped she is now. If it turns out her mark is still okay I'd imagine that's just a bonus.

                              • Henderson mentioning this as a possibility for Epatante this season. Though from his quotes I can't figure out which way he's leaning...

The outcome of the Christmas Hurdle will determine whether she continues down the Champion Hurdle route this season, having lost her crown when a well-held third behind Honeysuckle last March, or whether she could be rerouted towards the Mares' Hurdle.

"She looks a two-miler but is she going to beat Honeysuckle? In all probability the answer is no whatever she does on Sunday," he added.

"We're still ambitious, we're not going to lay down and we could even try her over two and a half and see if she stays that in the Mares' – that's only crossed my mind recently and I haven't even mentioned that to anybody.

"This and the Fighting Fifth were her two aims for the year. If we get this, we've achieved what we wanted to achieve because after that it's a totally different ball game. We'll certainly walk straight into Honeysuckle – she's something different."
