She jumped like a snooker table, will need to jump a lot better

Yeah agreed, not at that level for me. Last 3 races looked out of her depth.

The Coral Cup is arguably a deeper race than the Mares Hurdle? The penultimate run is more than excusable with the mistake putting an end to her chances and then being held up over 2 miles (in the overall context of her form) seems a false race to judge her on?

          • One bad run - it happens.
Two bad runs - watching brief.
Three bad runs - run for the hills. You can always back again on the day if she turns up.

            Just my view, of course.

                She wasn't held up yesterday

They bounced out to make the running and she jumped so poorly she ended up at the back in what was a terrible race

Have you ever been racing on a non championship day ? Say, Plumpton, Sedgefield, Catterick or the likes...

Thats like pulling someone up for saying a premier league match was terrible because the national league exists

                    It was a poor race

The strength of the race can be debated and everyone will reach different conclusions, but the term terrible about a G2 won by a progressive 5yo in a race that contained the winners of nine G2s and two G1s I, personally, wouldn't describe as terrible.
But like you, that's just an opinion...

The first and second yesterday were rated 147 and 152 I think, last years mares hurdle winner was rated 148, the current fave for this years race is 142.

so there is a good chance that the horses who beat heaven help us yesterday are better than anything that she will face in the mares hurdle at cheltenham, and running over her what seems to be her best trip of two and a half miles will also be a help.

so yes it was not the best renewal of the race itself, as in nothing in it is going to win a champion hurdle, but in the context of the mares hurdle, the race heaven help us will likely run in at the festival, it was pretty strong.

Good post. It wasn't a terrible race. I actually thought HHU did unbelievably well to finish where she did. They went off a decent clip and those fractions put pressure on her jumping. She was never travelling comfortably and was making mistakes. This is not the first time this has happened over 2m to her either. I thought she was bound to be pulled up at one point, but she rallied, found and stayed on, going down 10L. She ran to an RPR of 142, but has shown herself capable of running to an RPR of 149 over 2m5f at Cheltenham. I think some people massively under appreciate the impact going a proper speed over 2m has on horses that don't want to go a proper 2m speed. They come out of a rhythm, they waste energy, their jumping usually suffers and it all becomes a bit messy. For those reasons, I can comfortably forgive yesterday and if anything, I'm actually quite happy with her. She travelled brilliantly in the Ladbrokes Champion Stayers Hurdle before obviously not seeing out 3m. She travelled really well on debut before a mistake ended her race. She ran yesterday which I've explained here. I don't actually think she's done anything of real substance to knock, has she? I think 33/1 is a good price. How many ahead of her in the market have, or can run to an RPR of 149 around Cheltenham? Most at the top of the market at the moment won't go, loads will come out, and you'd think she's nailed on for this.

                              • After 3 defeats by a chunk, since the Coral Cup, HHU is one you can stay out of for a while, and see what the plan is with her.

I am not sure the trainers quite got the race planning right, since March.

Seems to be trying any trip.
