Personally this race has been deemed weak and was crying out for someone to step up. Going in to today I was praying for Eptante not to win and convince connections not to go here, (probably in thier heads already mind) but the worst happened from my pocket point of view, she won and thier idea will be a reality now, Im on her for the mares!
But i think the market will change quite alot leading up to the festival! KD or CS or someone else could put a good performance between now and then amd market fav will change throughout, just my opinion! But takw nothing away from epatante she won in style, but looking at trends, as the race prouduced the CH winner much over the years? (Faugheen is only one I remember)

He’s a yard stick you need to beat, but I don’t think it warrants being 7/2.
It’s an odd market, Pentland Hills is still single digits. I think the bookies are desperate for a Nonirish horse to be up there in the market and are over compensating.
If you decide to ignore her Cheltenham flop she has no other form that puts her in the mix, she has beaten trees

I think the market for the Champion Hurdle will sort itself out in due course, whenever the market is ready to. On Boxing Day last year, nobody would have envisaged in the slightest that little over 10 weeks later Espoir D’allen would win this race by a record 15 lengths. Nobody would have suggested that any of Beveur D’air, Laurina or Apples Jade would not have featured in the top 3, when most markets on the day were suggesting the winner,2nd and 3rd would be coming from this select group. So yes, Epatante was very impressive today - but to call her the Champion Hurdle winner at this stage would be foolish with so much more racing to come between now and mid March.

Made one antepost bet only this year- CITY ISLAND 28/1 in this.
Makes his chase debut tomorrow but starting out now means any doubts about jumping might see a switch to hurdles and coming back next year. At 28s happy to play as I would fancy him to give a race to any of the current market leaders. Ballymore winners have good Champion hurdle credentials and I just had to cover this just in case his chasing career isn’t plain sailing.
Lovely horse though and wish connections well.
Not convinced today’s Christmas Hurdle did much in the way of give us a definitive answer and hence I’m still happy to sit and watch to see if City Island is rerouted at a nice price.

As I say, certainly a shot in the dark but one I had to take given my view of him.
