    • After a year off and debut over hurdles I'm sure the jockey was told too take it easy. Just unlucky i.e the mistakes.

Think if he was a Ballymore NJH would be starting him over 2m.

Yep that's nice, he had a entry over 2m recently aswell but opted for this instead.

Soft lead for winner, but he could be good also as was giving 6lb to DG.
            Bit dopey, not bad.
Fair enough....so if the horse hadn't made the mistake, going slow wouldn't have been a dopey ride?

I wouldn't have him as a Bartlett horse myself.

                Next declaration should be informative.

Just watched it again to make sure my thoughts were right and the mistake didn't help but he actually got the horse back on the bridle between the last two flights and was only a length down jumping the last but had not asked the horse for a proper effort. All the while Johnson had been riding a finish on the winner. after a minor mistake at the last he then took a while to get himself organised and by the time the horse knew what was being asked of him it was too late.
A dopey ride for sure in terms of winning today's race.

Not sure about anybody else, but when a horse comes off the bridle in the last four furlongs of a race, then that should be it, jockey rides a finish. I don't like to see them come back on bridle again and cruise as invariably they don't respond the second time, and it confuses them, as it does when a jockey decides to pop a fence or steady a horse over one.

Mccoy rarely did any of the above, neither does johnson.

Having said all that, it was a debut and an education so it was an ok ride, but I'd have preffered to have seen him ride a finish earlier and see how the horse responded, especially after the mistake got him on the back foot for a bit.

Fehily does this and it infuriates me

                      • Nice to see Carefully Selected 'FINALLY' entered up in the Naas Novice Hurdle on Jan 6th. Don't see him taking up the engagement, the grade 2 Guiness Novice Hurdle at Limerick is more likely or maybe if there's a 2m 4f maiden down there at there same meeting.

Willie may end up sending more of his good sorts down to Limerick than usual this Christmas with the ground being more suitable than Punchestown for ones that like to get a toe in.

I prefer a quiet style to the pushing and shoving.

There are certain jockeys including Fehily, Ruby, Barry and Paul Carberry in the day who often look like they are holding onto more than they have. The jockey who goes for persuader last usually rides best race imo.

Think you're being a tad harsh. The horse didn't exactly hurdle fluently throughout, one mistake (probably cost him the race) the horse and jockey were actually lucky to stay in partnership..Obviously the jockey will need to get at the horse after a mistake like that, he lost lots of ground.

He actually rode the horse into the last fence where, again, he was untidy and not fluent. Absolutely no issues with that ride in my opinion- the horse was novicey + that's that.

So if Fehily had got at DG before the mistake, you'd have expected him to have won, and not thrown in any poor jumps (didn't hurdle perfect in the main) ?

Fehily has obviously taken the approach to go steady with the horse, and let him learn his job as he went. Rather than thrash him to bits.

I'm pretty sure Quevega was talking about Nico and not Fehily, my fault as I brought up Fehily just to muddy the waters
