He has them both well held on hurdles form, but saying that I don't think I could ever back Finian at short odds again.

Interesting that about Death Duty, hopefully nothing in it because I think he'd be swept off his feet by Footpad.

They have him at 2/5 for the race at Limerick on Boxing Day. Surely he goes here?

I hope so but it looks like it's not set in stone. Wouldn't be too pleased personally if he goes 2m . Win or lose.

        • Big ten minutes coming up for FO and Tizzard.

With Slate House emptying very quickly, a poor performance from FO will leave the yard with questions to answer.

Personally, I'd like FO to run well and win....

            • Surely they must be tempted to go the Stayers hurdle route with finians Oscar after another underwhelming display. I believe Robbie Power said after Sandown that he doesn't know what he's doing and guesses at the fences and that still looks to be the case. No doubt he's a talented horse to finish as close as he does despite giving up lengths at certain fences and giving weight away today. But for me he won't reach the top of fences so why not go for a weak (at this moment in time) looking Stayers hurdle.

I thought finians ran well he wasn't beaten by a mug, gave the winner 5 pounds and the winner will be in the shake up for the jlt/ rsa He Needs to improve his jumping but he's always going to be a chaser coming from the ptp fields and experience clearly helps. The jlt would look his trip to me. Wanted him to win obvioisly but it was by no means an easy task. And I'm far from dissapointed with that run.

                • Colin Tizzard is hoping the application of headgear might help Finian's Oscar brush up his jumping.

He said: "He was doing nothing the first mile, very much like he was at Sandown the other day.

"To be fair Bryan (Cooper) gave him a lovely ride and he had a helluva chance in the end. He gave away too much ground with his jumping.

"We will go up in trip and put some cheekpieces or blinkers on. As Bryan said it is not that he is ungenuine, he is just careful.

"The word 'brave' we used a couple of days ago is quite significant - he just needs to be a bit braver.

"It was a good run anyway and he nearly got there. We were giving the winner 5lb.

"We just need to straighten him up. He will go three miles now with something on his head, probably cheekpieces."

                  • Winning trainer Gary Moore said: "My horse was over-racing. He was travelling too well.

"He could have done with a better gallop and the second horse was not jumping with his usual fluency and subsequently our has had to move up into the race earlier than he needed to.

"The jockey on the second horse was slapping his and mine has become lit up. He has had to use him earlier than he wanted.

"He has really stuck his neck out though and he wanted to win. He is a proper horse. I think he will get three miles. It was tough out there today and he has got the two-five OK. We will have to see what the ground is at Cheltenham but we will enter him in the JLT and RSA and take it from there.

"I will have to go back and see what there is. He might have one more race before Cheltenham.

"He is up and coming and I do see him as a Ladbrokes Trophy horse one day."

                    • Don't really see the need to go to three just yet but blinkers may help. His jumping is so poor I get the impression he just doesn't like it so he's never going to be what we want him to be. I'd be schooling him morning noon and night to see if he can come to enjoy it.

                      • Sorry, I still think that FO is a slow old boat who has been over-sold by his trainer. Even his supporters talk of poor jumping and potential mental fragility.
I'm sure that there will be a sentimental Potts winner in March but much better candidates elsewhere.

inclined to agree now, have been a supporter but the gaffes are plain to see that his jumping at the moment isn't good enough to win graded races. I think he's a good horse but you have to be able to jump and he loses 1L a fence note often than not.

Will be looking elsewhere wherever he turns up (obviously I've already backed him but you know what I mean)

                              • Dangerous game writing off 5yo horses in my opinion, true FO has disappointed twice now and may not be winning many championship races but he is a multiple G1 winning horse so not entirely without talent.

Wasn't Rooster Booster beaten in his first 20 races or something before going on to winning a County and a Champion hurdle ?
