General Chat

Dunno spectre hasn’t been sighted on here at all this season. I’m sure someone else could take up the position if required
He should be in an even better position to do it now he has taken over Gaultstats :p

Oh is he. I thought Paul had announced he was taking it over

Morning all. I hope everyone is well? By coincidence I just posted in another thread before seeing this one.

Apologies for my absence. After a challenging couple of years in my personal life, it’s been a complete change of pace for me this year. I decided to unretire, and my investment in a business has kept me much busier than planned. As a consequence the time I’ve had for racing as a whole, and for the Spectre Racing horses too has been far more limited than I’d have liked. But I’ve vowed that 2026 will be different though, and it’s time to get focused on what really matters!

So to answer the question, yes the Naiad will happen as usual, and I’ve been populating shortlists as the season has progressed.

On the second point raised, Bryan has decided to continue with Gaultstats. We had a chat and his family wanted him to carry on with them, so I was more than happy to step aside. My interest was in ensuring they continued, and Bryan knows where I am if and when he decides he’s finally had enough.

Barring a couple of notable horses where I missed the price and still need to roll up to fill the sizeable holes, the Cheltenham book is looking in good shape. I’ve come out of Christmas pretty well, and barring a couple of novice hurdlers I got in board early I hadn’t invested in the novice hurdle and bumper markets. I suspect those that have would have had some damage over the past week? I’ve added a few over the last few days now though. What’s the general consensus after the Christmas period? Good or bad for your books? Has the damage been limited or has anyone had their books decimated?

What’s the general feeling this year? I’d say it’s looking a much more wide open Festival than we’ve seen for a long time, and the markets are all the better for it. I also think that Trainer’s may be more willing to take Mullins on this year, which has been the issue with the small fields we’ve seen in the novice divisions previously, rather than the BHA/Jockey Club interpretation when they made the changes before last season.

….Harry Fry added to stable tour thread.

Just watched Road To Cheltenham. Ruby just loves tearing Josh Stacey apart doesn't he

It's boring now though. Not the first, second or third time he's done it.

I wonder if he's just jealous because Josh is double his height :ROFLMAO:

Like watching Gulliver's Travels!

Yeah it seemed a lot more deliberate this time. He was laying into Josh and then saying "I agree with Andrew" just to rub it in further. I really enjoy listening to Ruby but as you say, it's boring. He obviously doesn't like him but he probably doesn't need to treat him like a rookie wrestler going into the ring for the first time all the time.

Think Ruby would prefer someone he could bounce off, and with all respects to Josh, when asked about any novices he watched over the last week that he wanted to put forward, he hadn't any, instead he opted to put up 3 unraced juveniles, that'll fly pre or early season on X, mid season you should've had some novices by now noted, can't be on these shows without doing some homework.

I'd say thats fair comment.

Ruby was very put out by it thats for sure, I get Josh was in Ireland over Christmas so was working, staying in hotels ect ect, but he'd have seen Ballyfad on course, it impressed me, easy work to stick up a comfortable winner of the same race as Kopek last season, or maybe he didn't want to not put up a MUllins horse as he didn't want to upset Ruby even more 😆

He's terrible in all honesty. Never once seen or heard him say anything interesting or insightful that would make you think. Just talks about horses yet to run that he's seen other people talk about on twitter.

It is kinda what he was brought in for, that more engagement with the viewers thing, just don't feel its bringing much to the table the way he goes about it, it might be a good idea in theory but the execution isn't working, I suspect thats why they brought in his partner in the most recent episode, have never watched or listened to either but he did seem more at ease on screen than Josh does

I do think maybe have Josh doing the questions from Twitter not in the studio might work better than the current set up, and another jockey in the studio alongside Lydia would give Ruby someone to bounce off of more...just not bloody Mick Fitz :ROFLMAO:
