Arkle 2020

Douvan started there, Un De Sceaux the week after at Thurles, I'm not sure it matters where they start, just which one ends up the best throughout the season. Did Melon also start in the race Footpad started in?

Well if a trainer tends to send his good one to a race over the years it's always interesting to see what he send there this year, no?

Yeah, I wasn't having a dig, was just pointing out the previous ones have gone to different races, Footpad, Douvan, Un De Sceaux & Duc Des Genievres all started in different races I believe, so I don't know how much of a bearing it has on where they start, although I used to think it did a fair amount as always thought trainers were creatures of habit, but based on the four mentioned I guess not now.

I think it matters more which graded races they end up in prior to the festival, as opposed to their debuts, although even that is flawed as DDG didn't take up a graded race prior to the Arkle (was a crap Arkle though).

That's true, i was more meaning a good one in general. Min, Douvan, Vautour + Al Boum Photo all starting here is interesting to me. Whether the 3 entered in it this year turn out as good as any of them i'd be questioning. I thought Breaken looked a rocket but very disappointing next time.

Yeah, fair point.

I always believed Breaken would be very good, so hope he lives up to my expectation of him. Still a big price @ 33/1. Has lengths to make up on Notebook over hurdles, but he was extremely lightly raced compared with him when they met, and still is. Same owner as Melon so they will be split up if he goes well over fences.

Probably.

Wouldb't be enough evidence of that with this owner yet I wouldn't have thought?

Breaken Arkle / Melon JLT e/w doubles at the ready :highly_amused:

She only has a small amount of horses, I don't think they'll be wanting to keep them together, unlike Mr Ricci who has however many at his disposal and can afford to run his against each other. It just links in with WPM saying about stepping up in trip with Melon too.

Haha the each way Mullins double, that's the game changer that!

Angel's breath did that very well.
So backed for this race, even though they may go JLT.
To my eye, that looked more of an arkle horse than Al Dancer, and of the two, I'd go further with Al Dancer (was tapped last time)

Did the same mate, strongly run Arkle could be right up his street. Jumping looked really good, first flow went pretty quick from the front and ab’s jumping remained good other than reaching a bit for one down the back.

Angels Breath got cut to 14’s for Arkle and 20’s for JLT with B365. I scrambled to get 33’s for JLT just in time. I agree with you Quevega but confused why they never tried Angels Breath in one of the 2 mile races at Cheltenham. He didn’t look like he struggled with 2.2 there after a decent pace by FF so may have more in the tank for the JLT but he could comfortably compete in the Arkle off that

Agree with Quevega, took the 25s prerace but not the JLT. Arkle looks the weaker race at the minute and a strongly run 2m could suit him well.
As well as Al Dancer in same colours maybe stepping up i dont think Nicky has too many arkle types anyway so Angels breath if he continues to improve could be his main hope

He's 12s for JLT with 365 and 12s for the Arkle.

Angels Breath is 14/1 with hills any race if that floats your boat

some brilliant open questions from Zoey Bird to Nico in that interview:highly_amused:
That new blonde haircut suits.
FFS.

I got 25's after he passed the line.
Think we've found a weak spot with B365.
Lunch hour trip to Gregg's.

I'd like to see AB run at Cheltenham again before backing him for anything at the fez. Didn't appear to take to the course in March and has ran below expectations twice going left handed.

Very good from Laurina.... she'll be fav for this and close to fav for JLT.

As a backer of Minella Indo and Laurina pre race that could have gone very wrong, but both did well.

Best thing about Laurina there was how confident Townend looked.
Shes was clever when she got close to a couple too.
Looks strong in the front legs too, so don't seem to take much out of her when jumping fences.
God knows what trip she'll go
