Arkle 2019

I think he could easily surprise and run a good race myself, and backed him last March for this.
But Not sure where you've seen evidence of the huge engine, unless you're a mechanic ? and you've recently fitted one ?
I'd say more of a 1.4 litre myself

My engine comment comes from his pedigree, the same as Outlander. Not exactly what you want for this race mind. He lost lengths at most fences against Real Steel but still made it back between fences. I don't give him much chance in this.

They're considering the JLT I believe to give him a chance to organise himself

We've been here before, they go no more than a couple of miles an hour quicker and he'll jump more fences in the JLT.
These trainers need to study science.
We Call them N*b eds where I'm from.

Footpad - 29.75mph arkle
Shattered Love - 28.9mph JLT

He'll feel like he's walking going that much slower FFS

I think this is far more winnable than the JLT as it stands now. But if that's the case then fair enough, i can see the reasoning behind that. The horse wont lack for stamina.

I'm aware it's going to sound like a desperate need to get a Willie Arkle horse in the portfolio, but bare with me on Duc Des Genievres for a minute.

He's by the same sire as Dynamite Dollars (one time Arkle favourite) & Al Boum Photo, amongst others.

During his novice hurdle campaign he got the closest of any novice hurdlers to Samcro, excluding the festival itself, that same race he also ended up ahead of Paloma Blue, Sharjah & current Arkle favourite, Le Richebourg.

He was extremely highly tried as a novice hurdler, 4 Grade 1's & a Grade 2, one of his better runs being over the Arkle trip.

He has chase form with the horse a lot of us were hoping for, Cilaos Emery, when taking a wide path all the way round in that race.

He bolted up in a beginners chase LTO, over 2m 4f, on a galloping track, he is a keen goer normally, and Good - Good/Soft would not be a problem over a stiff 2m.

On ratings (for what they are worth) he was up there with the best of these over hurdles.

16/1 NRNB makes him overpriced, and quite possibly the only blessing from CE being injured is that it has made me look into him, otherwise I had not even considered him because of him already being beat by the one most of us wanted anyway.

Willie suggests he'll come here too...

I was very pleased with his performance at Gowran Park the other day and I’d imagine he’ll go to the Arkle Challenge Trophy now.

Forgot to mention, Ruby will likely be on his back, he'll probably go off 3rd or 4th favourite at worst too.

Lol

Joker

The clear favourite has run once at the course and been mullered in a county hurdle at 33/1. The only horse that could trouble Paloma is Lalor but I don't think he will be able to go with mine on softer than good ground. Its all about opinions isn't it.

With CE out I am now clinging on to my 50/1 Lalor ticket. I really don't fancy any of the others at all. May have a look at Glen Forsa on the day now.

??????? He'll be on LR

I dont think that is clear cut.

Barry has ridden him over fences 3 times. Mark twice.

Barry won more 2 mile chases at the festival than anyone.

Barry has 36 festival winners. Mark has one.

To be fair I have more doubts about the trainers record than either jockey.

as per Tony Kennan...

This is not your typical Arkle. Three of the front four in betting are trained by Joseph O’Brien, Kayley Wollacott and Mick Channon, who between them have trained one Festival winner, officially at least.

I think Paloma’s jumping will not be good enough to win a race this year at Cheltenham but see him as a similar horse to brain power who will make up a lot of ground between fences and salvage a place. I think he’s good for a place, much more probable in the Arkle as he will have more power to finish strong and get up the hill. Long term I think he could progress into a very decent jumper but the Festival has come too soon for him this year, HDB has a very good track record of improving jumpers over time. I’m hoping for a place in the Arkle and confident he’ll get 3rd. Whilst I hope it won’t happen I also fear the pace and inexperience of the Arkle race always increases the chances of a few fallers and expect one of the favs this year not to get around.

Okay, but what makes you think we'll see an improvement on Arkle day?

As I just posted, he's one of my winners...but I was hoping Henry turned him into a slick jumper, and he hasn't. His big engine couldn't get him ahead of Kalashnikov, Summerville Boy or Mengli Khan.... and they're all pants?

Paloma Blue was keen again early on that day. I would argue he's a horse with a decent bit of raw talent, considering all the above slating Donny.

He jumped pants and was still loooking like he'd beat Real Steel, a horse plenty on here have put up for the JLT.

He could go either way jumping wise. I like a novice that doesn't jump foot perfect early on, they learn to deal with errors better which will help them when in better company. But he doesn't seem the most straightforward so it's also likely he'll jump like a pig the rest of his life.

I was happy to back him in the Irish Arkle, but he was NR then, and i'd have rather he ran there and even didn't win just to see if his jumping improved upped in class.

Just think that this race is over if Lalor turns up in the same form as first time out at Chelts. Big IF, but has RJ on his back, likely ideal ground, good fresh and course form. Should be favourite.

Visually for me le richlebourg wins just seems quicker than the others at the head of the market lalor hasn’t beaten much
