2026 Stayers Hurdle

Thought Honesty Policy was going to Newbury? Was a bit surprised not to see him declared by may be just that JP has another runner...

Impose Toi been smashed at Newbury today. Evens now. I'm sure I read Hendo saying he'd be surprised if he was graded class recently 😂

IMO the race today isn't that great and Henderson has a line through Doddiethegreat on both Strong Leader & Take No Chances.

Strong Leader you know what you're going to get (most of the time), but he's got to give weight away to the entire field.

The up and coming horses (over the trip at least) are both Impose Toi & Take No Chances. The only reason Impose Toi was as big ante post was because Honesty Policy was touted as coming here for JP instead. Obviously JP & his band of merry men fancied an early Christmas present and so latched on to the bigger prices for Impose Toi and are now sitting pretty.

I do hope he goes and dots up. The Stayers is already looking a fantastic race so with another entering the picture can only make it more competitive.

Ballyburn, Teahupoo, Maxxum & Mystical Power are 4 of the 6 declared for the Hattons Grace on Sunday.

Won today and battled on well but it was a really messy race. No pace at all. He'll have to go down the Stayers route now though as the Handicapper will probably hit him hard.

He's a live one alright. No real pace to aim at, and he was pulling away, Nico done well to restrain him as much as he did, and then get him up.
 
Just seen the race. It's not one for me at that sort of price. I would rather have the WTAF than not have it (I haven't) but a half length win over a horse giving him 6lbs that has turned out to be an underwhelming stayer isn't what i would like to see. That kind of form has Impose Toi needing about a stone of improvement to get to Teahupoo.

Agreed, nico must’ve had sore arms by the end! Still battled well. I want to see him do it again though as the race wasn’t overly strong

Mystical Power
He was going very well in the Stayers’ Hurdle at Cheltenham in March when he lost his action and pulled up. He will have to improve but I wouldn’t be discounting Mystical Power. I think he ran a lot better than the form figure suggests that day and he could be a force over these staying trips and even going out over further.

His rating wouldn’t suggest he’s able to take on the favourite but over this type of a trip he might have a little more speed than the opposition on Sunday and he’s one I’m really looking forward to watching this season in the staying division.

Ballyburn;
We’ve two nice runners in here to take on Teahupoo. Ballyburn is coming back from jumping fences and he will need all of this trip to show his best but there should be plenty of pace in the race which will bring out the stamina he showed over hurdles earlier in his career. He has every chance.
 
Teahupoo looks a good bet today, only concern is the ground isn't soft enough but should be too good for ballyburn and mystical
 
Jesus that was a close race. They went far too slow for me again but hats off to Ballyburn, pulled hard all way yet still devoured the final 2furlongs!

He does have proper staying pedigree and id make him the fav for the stayers now and im a big teahupoo fan.
 
Not sure what to make of that. Obviously a trip too short for Teahupoo and we know he gets the 3 miles at Cheltenham. Ballyburn has just been beaten over his preferred distance. They will have to try him over 3 miles before the Stayers.

We’ve been spoilt today. Some really high quality racing with close finishes.

Stayers Hurdle looks like a bloody deep division this year for once.

Ballyburn a general 5/2 shot after that. Too short for me (famous last words) especially as he hasn’t shown his best at 3m yet. Happy to see him do it first and take shorter if he does.
