2026 Champion Hurdle

Can't see anything laying a glove on Sir Gino right now - expect him to come forward massively for Kempton too.

TBF thats a great price, if you haven't backed her already for the CH, that's tough to ignore to help balance the book.

I take it WPM didn’t say much post race? Seen the Townend clip…..mentioning the ‘other race’ as well :ROFLMAO:

Paul just gives off "She'll win the mares but is vunerable in the CH so I'd rather have the winner on the board" vibes whenever asked about her, it does tickle me.

I'd be fairly sure Lossiemouth isn't going anywhere other then the Champion hurdle.
Have a good think about it.
Willie has nothing else, neither has Paul Townend.
He could throw a handful of mares at Wodhooh if he wanted.

Funnily enough I feel like she'll end up in the Mares quite strongly :ROFLMAO: No pocket talk either as cashed my mares bets on her

Willie wants to provide his owners with winners, and again Rich doesn't at this stage have a whole pile, he will want to give him a winner and that will come in the Mares.

Would that logic also apply to Gaelic going to Ryanair rather than GC?

Willie Mullins said: “Paul had to go with Anzadam. She stays two and a half miles so he wasn’t going to be doing anything wrong going with him.

“I’m sure both mares will be back here for the Dublin Racing Festival. There aren’t too many options for those types of horses.

“Anzadam couldn’t get cover and was jumping so well he took Patrick to the front.

“I’m wondering should we be making the running with him in future. He has a fair engine and if we can control him, he is probably a Grade One horse.”

Lossiemouth remains Coral’s 3-1 second-favourite for the Champion Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival behind 13-8 market leader Sir Gino. Brighterdaysahead, who has disappointed in two previous visits to Prestbury Park, is a 14-1 shot following her promising comeback effort.

You'd need her to run and get beat in the Irish Champion to even have a shout.
No way they go for the mares if she wins there, and the track in Dublin will suit her more so I expect she'll win further.

The other hope for mares backers is something happening to Wodhooh leaving Lossie a penalty kick.
But this is cancelled out if something happens to Sir Gino for the champion.

The whole winners thing gets my goat.
Willie wants to win the championship races and so does Paul.
They are the races that you remember when you're sat around the fire. Especially so for the elite performers.

They've only ever ducked the championship races with a good one when they've had a strong chance in the race with another horse anyhow.
Last year, the work was clearly influential prior to the decision and the results before that were messy also.
They were proved right, but got unlucky at the last.

Not giving up on Anzadam for the CH then by the sounds of that.
Fair enough to try something different for a young horse.
He’s definitely got an engine.
Bit mad though!!

….Townend;

Speaking to Racing TV, he said: "I was trying to cover all bases towards the end of the back straight with the horse in front of me. I wasn't aware how much he'd done behind, but he jumped so quick past me and got lengths, and I know his level of ability so I couldn't let him out of sight like he was a no-hoper.

"She's very straightforward. I could go out with a free hand and line up knowing my mare would stay, so I could try and put her in the right position. It's lucky to have the likes of her that you can go down and make it up as you go along.

"I thought I was in front long enough and when Lossie felt her [Brighterdaysahead] coming she was always pulling out enough to keep her behind us."

Did Anzadam absolutely throw his chances away, yes, but he outjumped them all so comprehensively he just ended up in front. I’m not giving up on that nut job yet. He did well to finish so close given the burnout mid race. At least he didn’t try and bite any rivals Jo the run in 😜😜 as a lossie backer for this, not sure she did enough to scare off sir Gino though
