2017 Cheltenham Gold Cup

I agree with you. Unless I see Thistlecrack beat Cue Card, then I'll think Cue Card is the one to beat. I'd get tempted if Thistlecrack dismissed something like Many Clouds by 10 lengths and still on the bridle though. (A horse not good enough for a Gold Cup, but a solid and experienced performer)
 
Just out of curiosity what do people think of 25/1 double for Coneygree to win the King George (providing he runs), and Cheltenham Gold Cup?

Worth a £10?

I think Kevloaf had that with the Betfair chase thrown in to pay off the mortgage.

Firstly the horse is best priced 5/1 for the King George and 9/1 for the Gold Cup so the 25/1 double is terrible value, if you fancy the horse to win both then back him in singles now, 1 point 5/1 and 5 points 9/1 and you get the bonus of a payout if he wins the King George and not the Gold Cup.
I love the horse but he is so fragile, he could easily win the King George by a street and then never see a racecourse again sadly and it's that fragility that stops me warming to any long term targets connections might have.
I'd love the horse to prove his fitness and contest the next 3 King Georges and Gold Cups though....
 
I dont think its terrible value, I suppose depends on what price you think he will be if he wins the KG, id imagine no bigger than 4/1 so if you backed the horse at 5/1 and rolled over the winnings and initial stake onto the GC then you would get the equivalent of 29/1. So depends on what you think the GC price would be if he won it. If Thistlecrack ran in the novice race and it didnt go to plan im guessing that after a Coneygree King George win youd be looking at less than 4/1 probably around 3/1, i also wonder if after the King George a firm might go NRNB on the race which would make this approach more attractive, than taking the 25/1 double.
 
billymag - it's terrible value because you can get the same bet at bigger odds by doing the singles and adjusting stakes.

The double is best priced 54/1 now (if you can get on) - 48/1 with SJ who you can get it on with... so if I was tempted by 'the double' I'd bop half my stake on that, and then hope it didn't get altered afterwards like I think mine probably will anyway...

I of course would need Cue Card to land this treble too, not Coneygree :highly_amused:
 
Thistlecrack vs Cue Card is on in the King George .... going to shake up this market. Winner has to be fav!

What price will Thistlecrack be if he beats Cue Card fair and square? 6/4 is my guess.
 
I think the 8/1 price for the KG/GC dbl for both of the horses is good, whatever wins out of the two ( hopefully Thistlecrack! :p ) like Faugheen says will be plenty short.

May have a small bet on both
 
If he beats Cue Card fair and square he can't be opposed for the Gold Cup. What an exciting prospect! We will surely see Thistlecrack off the bridle!

I have this long time antepost at 60/1! Thought it was a beaten docket and was very surprised and happy to hear the news this morning. Only on for a 10er but its game on now!

genuinely thought it was beat, didn't think they were going to go King George.

Its going to be some race. However, I have also taken the 11.5 on the exchanges this morning for Thistlecrack to win the world hurdle. Its a just in case it goes t1ts up on the 26th and they decide to revert to hurdling but i'm hoping to be binning that bet. I have Harry covered and IMO Thissy is the only horse who could beat him come world hurdle.

That is why I love jump racing, some performance today, I hope Thistlecrcack goes on to win the Gold Cup
