  • I'd be very surprised if both didn't go.

Ive got a nice cash out available on IP.
Right now I’m thinking that this will go to the wire, but any thoughts or advice would be most welcome and appreciated.
The quote from Elliot back in mid-January never struck me as being quite as committed as I’ve seen others feel it was. Used the words ‘probably, if, maybe’ when talking about Irish Point. However, Jack’s recent interview on the Road to Cheltenham definitely gave the impression he’d need to choose between the two which hints that the plan is to run both. His comments about them both makes me think he will ride Teahupoo.

It’s only my opinion but I wouldn’t be hugely surprised if IP didn’t run. However, probably wouldn’t cash out a bet on him if you had a decent price. If you sit tight more info will probably slip out between now and March.

      • If Irish Point doesn't run in the Stayers Hurdle then Elliot deserves everything that Henderson gets. It's one thing to dodge races in prep for Cheltenham, but to dodge Cheltenham in a prep for Aintree would be a new low! Sacrilege. Imagine Teahupoo got a stone bruise on the day of the race and they didn't run Irish Point... I'd laugh my arse off.

        • I don’t mind Irish Point bypassing Cheltenham if connections said something like “stayers could be the target if the ground is good, if it’s soft we’ll run teahupoo and save IP for aintree”

but then again… why would connections be so open about their plans

i don’t think I would be as keen as I am on IP if the ground came up soft like last season

              No reason both wouldn't run.

Jack was quite clear in saying he'd leave his decision on which to ride until the last minute (and by that meaning which one he'd ride)

My feeling on that is both will run regardless of which he picks

FWIW I think he was sweeter on Teahupoo 'knowing' he'd get the trip and has strengthened, and he likes to go with his gut......

                That all makes sense
I will sit tight for now, but certainly keep an eye on any developments

A reason they might not run both maybe because Theleme is not running now? That was pointed out to me and think it’s a fair point.
They may feel Teahupoo is enough to beat what’s left?

Doesn't strike me as something that Gordon would want to be honest...

                    • I really dont get why Impaire et passe has been kept over hurdles this season. The only chance he has of winning a race at cheltenham would be this. The further he went the better last year and now hes chasing round state man over 2 miles. Pocket talk, but if he doesnt come here its been a waste of a season.

Which Novice Chase do you think he'd have won?

So to contradict my point about further the better, id have started him over 2 miles over fences and went from there. Total guess work as to which race he could win as ive not seen him over a fence . Realistically, he would only have Marine to beat in the arkle, and then Gaelic in the Turners who he put away easy enough. I suppose Willie thought he had the arkle covered with FV and the turners with Gaelic, but they look to be switching now and adds uncertainty

Stayed because the owners asked Willie to do so , Willie wanted & planned to go chasing.
I would say obviously in hindsight the wrong decision but they thought they could crack State Man at the time.

I would say the obvious reason you don't go 3 miles now with him as if you want a chaser over 2 or 2 4 then you don't want to take him 3m as it'll take more than they want out of him and your trying to teach a different way of racing which is counter productive to next season which is what its all about now.

You are right, they tried and failed this year (so far) and its all about next year now.

                              • I still think he can get closer to State Man this season, may even get ahead by the time the seasons done and that'd make him a G1 level hurdler in open company

Ultimately he's likely to place in a Champion Hurdle for me, I don't think that's a failed or wasted season myself if he gets that done.
