Not much talk about The Real Whacker
Sounds obvious now, but I think the 3 miler couldnt stick with the pace, and potentially needed the run too
I do think The Real Whacker, and this is no disrespect, will be another Bristol De Mai. I wouldnt rule him out, he's a very good horse. He's shaping up to be one of those who will win 3 miles but just shy of TOP TOP grade 1 company
Just for your information in case you have missed it opatcho he came back and a vet examination revealed him to be lame as a result of being struck in to.
Also his first run last season left a lot to be desired, although over hurdles, as you acknowledge he could have needed the run.
I'd judge him on his next run.

I missed that! Thanks for sharing
An opportunity then to side with him next time out, hopefully at slightly bigger odds than if he went close today - cheers
I was chatting to a couple of mates yesterday and The Real Whacker strikes me as the type who'll struggle for the first half of the season and probably only come to form on trials day in the cotswold chase. There just aren't the races that really suit him this side of Christmas imo so hoping he'll continue to drift. As mentioned above, he was dreadful first time out last season too and turned it around.

I hadn't seen they'd pushed him out.
33/1 each way for the BANC winner is a lovely price. Not winning a handicap over 2m4f in November isn't ruling him out of a Gold Cup for me....
Too closely tied to Gerri Colombe to ignore at the price.
He's the same price as Jonbon, Vanillier and Saint Sam
Shishkin, a former Champion Chase horse, is now seen as a Gold Cup candidate. It is, however, possible that one of the sport's most enigmatic stars could miss a key Gold Cup test and swerve Haydock's Betfair Chase next Saturday in favour of Ascot's less valuable 1965 Chase.
"I'm going to say it's 50-50," said Henderson. "If the ground is going to be hard work, two miles and five furlongs around Ascot might appeal more than three miles, one and a half furlongs around Haydock."
Wherever Shishkin heads, De Boinville will be in the saddle. After what has happened at Cheltenham this weekend, his confidence should be sky-high
The above is a paragraph taken from an article on the racing post.
Before the betfair entries, I had thought ascot would've been a preferred route for shishkin, his best two performances have come at ascot IMO, his defeat of energumene and his destruction of pic d'orhy.
The obvious concern with the king george in mind would be his subsequent runs after those performances, champion chase 2022 and ryanair 2023, which in truth wasn't a bad run just not what was expected.
The 1965 chase would hopefully not take as much winning as his previous ascot exploits and could be a better king george prep for shishkin.

Hendo knows he cannot beat Nicholls without delivering Shishkin at fever pitch on the day. A little like Altior v Cyrname this is going to get a little personal I suspect. I don’t think Hendo will mess it up. There are others in the mix as well and I hope it lives up to its potential. I think it’s really important for racings sake that the King George doesn’t become an hors d’oeuvres for the race on the second Friday of March .
Possibly the Gold Cup has taken it out of BMG now. See how Galopin gets on tomorrow.
Think you could be right.
something tells me the way i've heard ruby walsh speaking about galopin he possibly isn't the same horse either, subtle hints here and there
