ELIMAY’s form from last years Mares Novice Chases just got a decent boost there. She beat today’s winner by 5 lengths last season when making her seasonal (and Chase) debut and Augusta Gold already having had three fence runs that season (312).

Then Elimay gave her 3lbs and a 13 length beating the next time out.

      I like Elimay.
But the price has never been right, even on the exchange.
I bet it stays the same when NRNB comes in.

      • At the start of the season there were conflicting comments around where Benie Des Dieux would be aimed. Patrick talked about a hurdles campaign and Willie referred to her going chasing but also mentioned hurdles as well - quote below.

'She had a little setback so won't be appearing until the second half of the season. She's a fantastic jumper over fences and I'd imagine we'll be going over fences. We'll look at the mares' chase at Cheltenham, or there is the mares' hurdle too'

BDD is unbeaten over fences but she has beaten very little in her three chases. However, her jumping is really good and she put in almost a perfect round of jumping with Townend on board on her first chase start at Limerick.

She clearly goes well fresh and would have won the Mares hurdle after a long absence if she hadn't fallen. If she is coming here you would expect them to have a run over fences first. She could go for the race she won at Naas before the 2018 festival but that's over 2 miles so they might be looking for a race over a longer trip. Does anyone have any ideas?

If they follow the same route as last year and run in the Galmoy hurdle you would have to think they will stay over hurdles - things should become clearer towards the end of the month.

I'm really hoping she'll come here and she would be a short price particularly off the back of a win in a prep run. If she doesn't it could be a tip in itself for what Willie does run in the race. I was really impressed with how Colreevy battled back after a bad mistake at the last at Limierick and she looks the obvious one if BDD stays over hurdles. A G1 penalty would make things more difficult though assuming she gets one.

        • BDD into 4's in places for this today. I'm fairly sure she'll come here because it's the easiest race. Nothing easy about taking on Honeysuckle over 2m4f as she learnt last year, and I doubt they're in a rush to give a 10 year old servant like BDD a tough time. Willie goes for the easiest option unless his hand is forced. RR wont force him so I am confident she will end up here. The cherry on the cake is how sick Concertista looks. He has a very good one there that is more than capable of serving it up to Honeysuckle, again making this race IMO more likely. People are wondering when we will see her - I don't want to see her before the fez because she runs really well off a lay off, and would have absolutely pissed in at 10/11 in the mares hurdle were it not for falling, and that was after being off 11 months. My main concern was PTKO coming here and not QMCC, but I think PTKO ran a gallant enough effort in defeat vs CPS for her connections to take aim at her beloved Cheltenham.

          • We don't know how fit BDD is after her setback and they might struggle to find a suitable race over fences so you could be right. I'd be happy with her going straight there for this race with or without a run. Those pre festival gallops at Leopardstown have turned into a bit of a waste of time but it would be lovely to see her pinging a few fences down the back straight there.

I think plenty on here will be agreeing with every word of that. Well said.

I remember your namesake turning out after racing at Leopardstown many years ago, doing a great piece of work and then absolutely bolting up in the Coral Cup

                • Does anyone actually know where BDD is with her training, or even if she’s back in full work yet? All our debate could be pointless!

Skysthelimit travelled all over the other horses he worked with in his gallop and everyone was interested in the name of the grey horse. He was very well supported in the run up to the race but drifted on the day as I backed him again.

I remember watching the race from the lawn and he travelled like a dream and was cantering at the top of the hill (did Barry have a cheeky look round?) sluiced through the field and was still on the bridle at the last. He didn't find as much as I thought he would on the run in but still won well. It was the day that Denman got beat in the Sun Alliance (Ballymore) and Kauto fell in the Champion Chase.

I've tried a few times to find a re-run of the race online but can't find it anywhere. If anyone knows when I can find a re-running of the 2006 Coral Cup, let me know.

No sure what you were expecting! It was the biggest winning distance of the week and he barely came off the bridle.

                      * just checked and it was only 4 lengths. I was certain it was further than that!

                      • I don't think I've seen the race since 2006 so I'm not sure whether he won more easily than I thought and whether BG did take the piss at the top of the hill. I'm happy with short head winners at the festival as well

                        • I’ve said this a few times on here that I still think it’s crucial to remember that Rich Ricci has always said that if a Mares Chase was made at the festival, it would be the ideal race for BDD. He said that. He believes that. It’s the easiest race to win. I just don’t see why Benie wouldn’t turn up in it. She will. And she will win. And she will be 1/2 on the day. Imo of course.

I had no idea this was the case. Even more sure it's here or nowhere now.

                            • As talented and brilliant as Benie is she is still a 10 year old mare so to get her race fit and schooled so she’s ready to race at the festival with or without a prep run is a big ask and expectation. I think we will hear very little about her progress or state of health until closer to the date. I’d personally be surprised if she turns up at all.

                              • A lot of people jumping on the bandwagon now... based on Salsaretta being average today.

Nothing has changed since this was discussed pre-season, and early season and right up until PP went shortest price.

They're currently bigger than the 4/1 mentioned, so get off the bandwagon and put down the handbook.

                                Yeah yeah yeah yeah

The last two lines are a song for anyone not hip and happening, or from Sheffield.

I wonder what her NRNB price will be for this?
