          • Has anyone got a strong view on Hitman for Nicholls for the Arkle? Obviously tough opposition, etc. But he was very impressive on debut for the yard. He has decent form in France. He’s backed into 9/4 for the Henry VIII, which does look to include the main protagonists from this side of the Irish Sea (Shishkin, and possibly Gumball aside)...and yet he’s still 33s. Surely a win there (and I think he’ll get his soft ground given the rain down here today and forecast tomorrow) and he’ll be cut to 16s/20s?

            • Court Maid would take some beating if they decide to go here. She has been given 12lbs for her win at the weekend over 3m5 that brings her up to 152. With her 7 pounds allowance, qualified and her stamina proven I'm surprised she's still 16s and 14s.

Obviously not ideal running over such a distance before the Irish National which is 3 weeks later. She could even win the NHC and maybe not even go up much. Last few years winners were 153,150 and 154. Trainer didn't seem certain which way they would go after the race and said they will see what the handicapper does.

The prize money should sway them and if she was mine id be trying to get a few pounds off and go back for the big one. Anybody have any strong opinions as to where she will end up?

The Irish National is worth a heck of a lot more than the NHC (I think it worth more than the CH) so I'd only be looking at one race if I owned her.

                • Might see Captain Guinness out over fences again this weekend - entered in a 2m beginners chase on Sunday at Punchestown. 33/1 for the Arkle is tempting me back in if he can put that last run behind him...

Looks like he has been declared. It is a good race to bring him back in. Not the strongest on paper - alpha mix opposes but hes 2 runs away from a mark... nothing else really of note.

                    • The big breakaway looks a complete dodgepot

                      Horrible head carriage

                      • He's a big rogue baby - couldn't have him for anything of any substance this season.

Top ride from Sean too it must be said.

His head carriage is what puts me off. Obviously that was over too short for him but he found nothing at all then. He is also a lazy bugger as well, Was bumped a few times in the early stages to keep his concentration.

                          • That should end any doubt about running him over anything shorter than 3 miles.

                            • Easy to after time now, but I did wonder what the hell Tizzard was doing sticking him over 2m 3f, regardless of opposition, when he was outpaced a little on his chase debut as it was, and that was over 3m 1/2f. Also had the 8lb penalty today too. I'm writing that run off, immediately.

Looks a real awkward horse, and so slow away from his fences. Potentially one for next season. Couldn’t have him for anything this season.
