  • Missed the bigger prices, but have Backed CAPTAIN GUINNESS at 20/1 for the Arkle. He needs to learn to settle better, but is a very exciting and speedy horse. Was very unlucky in the supreme.

Very exciting and any amount of improvement in him. Trainer has an immense record in the Arkle as well.

      • One that I’ve been toying with adding is a Embittered. I think Gigi and Joseph will want to get him over a fence sooner rather than later, although he’s still got a workable handicap mark. That said Gigi want G1 Winning chasers and he’d be ready made for the Arkle. 50/1 with 365 is tempting with the cash out option.

I’ve backed Saint Roi for the Champion Hurdle and Embittered comes out ahead of him at the weights in the County. He’s built for a fence, and looks to have plenty of speed so I’d prefer him for the Arkle than the Marsh where he’s currently quoted at 33/1.
Luck is a dividend of sweat. The more I sweat, the luckier I get.

...16-1 in Hills TWAR market seems a bit stingy.

          • I see Hills have priced Sharjah up at 10's for the Arkle. I wont be rushing to back him at that price just yet but he would certainly be interesting if he did go over fences. The owner has saldier so would make sense to stick one of them over fences and with Sharjah being 8 next year if they don't do it now they never will. Has anyone heard any news on whether he will go over fences or not?

Not heard any news, and Hills do price up some random stuff...

It'd mimic Melon a little bit, going chasing this old. I wouldn't use the owner as the catalyst for the decision.. but it's impossible to rule out.

10/1 wouldn't get me anywhere near backing it until I heard the decision... he's also likely to be flirted with as a Marsh horse just like Melon ended up being.

              What's his Any Race price?

I wanted him in the Arkle last season, others weren't so sure. He ran a cracker in the CH in the end tbf.

He’s not listed with either skybet or hills in the any race market (at this stage) but saldier is 16 and 14’s which would make more appeal if he was sent chasing.

                  • I won't swear to it , but i'm sure i saw Saldier in a flat race a/p - oddschecker.
could have been the Melbourne Cup.??.

                    • Does anyone know if Sharjah or Saldier had jumping experience prior to hurdling? I apologise for not doing my own research but I’m just wondering as I’m of the understanding that the majority of Rich Ricci’s horses are purchased from France and so don’t have the PtP experience as the Irish bred horses do?

No, both were from the flat I believe. That said Vautour and Douvan did not have PTP or fence experience, but obviously raced over hurdles (bigger than the obstacles in UK/IRE), in France.

                        • I like many have a strong position on Envoi Allen as a single win bet, and also running through a whole host of multiples. The issue I'm creating for myself is that I'm pretty much eggs in one basket for the Marsh. Whilst I'm happy to discount the Arkle, because I can't see Gordon messing around with a drop in trip, I can't discount the possibility of the RSA.

I'm happy with the win single position, but my ew multiples book is far too lobsided and I need to think how I cover the any race/RSA options. So my question is what have you guys done to cover your position, and what bets/specials have you used to keep Envoi Allen multiples balanced in your book?

I don't have the luxury of a William Hill account any more for any race by the way.

Skybet go 5/2 he wins RSA or Marsh. Only 1/2 point better than TWAR price but an option nonetheless. Think everyone is pretty much in the same boat as you from what I've read.

I am similar to you with both EA and Shishkin.

What I did was Paddy power let you have one any race horse with a horse in a chosen race. So have a couple of doubles with shishkin any race and EA Marsh and vice versa.

Pretty certain shishkin is Arkle bound but just in case as well have done some any race with him also.

Both too low a price for me to part with big single bets this far out and missed the prices right after their respective races this year.

                              • He is also 2/1 to win any race with Sky bet if you have an account with them? Just in case they do what they did with Samcro and try and turn him into a champion hurdle horse but I personally think that is unlikely. So think the 5/2 as Lobos pointed out could be an option but that cant be used in Multiples. Either way, 5/2 is short enough 9 months out even if he is the most likely winner of whatever novice chase he turns up in.
Also, there are a couple of alright looking RaB's that have him in to win any race: EA, shishkin and DDS to win any race at 100/1 was one that caught me eye.
