  • I think Le Richebourg will more than likely go for the Arkle but I can also see how he could switch with Defi du Seuil.

You'd have to have another think about Defi dropping back to 2 miles after that run behind Lostintranslation. Yes he got well beat over 2 miles at the track prior but he's clearly come on for the run and some of Hobbs horses with long layoffs were needing the run (Jerrysback had a very similar run at Cheltenham on seasonal debut then improved bundles on his next 2 runs)

Then add in the fact Le Richebourg has already ran twice over the intermediate trip over fences and came close to matching Delta Work all the way 2 runs back.

We know LR will go for the Arkle trial at the Dublin Festival and it would be very hard to see him going back up in trip if he were to win there.

But I would start to worry about a switch if DdS gets entries/declared for either

Lightning Novice Chase, Doncaster - 26th January
Kingmaker Chase, Warwick - 9th February

Same here, think he has improved for every run but the pace of the Arkle he'll be long behind before having any chance, due to his jumping, nothing else, he clearly still retains the engine.

        • If both trainers Hobbs and Joseph want to go arkle and they have jockeys available then I'd say they'd both go for the arkle.
This would especially be the case of something emerges that goes very short for the JLT (which may have happened today)

Would be very happy with Mark Walsh on Le Rich

            • Mark Walsh is riding as well as ever.

The stars nearly aligned for him last year and then got taken away just as quickly!

I am a Barry fan, but I understand plenty are not, but Mark Walsh on the Irish horses and Barry on the UK wouldn't put anyone's noses out of joint, I'd assume.

              • Le Rich should be fav but Joey didn't exactly land much of a blow at Cheltenham last year.

That's a 'trend' that even trend lovers can't think had any legs though?

                  He's just class

                  • I’ve got Le Rich in my book and I really like the horse but I do think he is good ground dependent and wouldn’t fancy his chances if it came up soft.

                      Definitely looks that way

Fully concur. I think LR has Ankle stamped all over him. In fact he's my biggest fancy for the festival thus far.

                        • Us And Them is a solid yardstick. Hardline beat him 10L backed it up with another good run against Getabird. 65/1 for the Arkle compared to 8/1 LR. Mad price.

I can't see Hardline in this. Im very sweet on him but think/hope he's JLT bound.

                            • Yep but at 65/1 I'm taking the chance. MK could end up the JLT horse...

At 65/1 you can't knock it, but I think MK will be Gigginstown's runner in this, I think he loses, but he will be their runner. Hardline has good form lines with Voix Du Reve, as we have discussed in the past so I am happy to see him run the solid races he has, but VDR is pretty weak and Hardline hasn't suddenly come in for an abundance of money...yet, there is no strength behind the pair just yet, but I will be keeping an eye on him in the coming weeks, with regards to the markets.
