RSA Chase 2020

As a Minella Indo back can I say, bugger.

As a horse racing fan, can I say HOLY SMOKE

Wouldnt normally gloat about such things but ......... I wont!! Can we accept now though that he would of won the Dipper if he hadnt of fallen, the theory that he was emptying looked silly to say the least at the time but i think we can accept that he would probably of scraped home lol.

Me neither!! I told everyone I knew this horse was the real deal!! All the snide remarks and put downs on this horse on preview nights in particular well have that egg on ye have the lot of ye hahaha!! Go ed Champ!

Also nice to see Geraghty turning it on a bit with a few nice rides.

Bazza G, im sorry for all them things I said, your the best xx

Festival has been made!

Antepost double Envoi 10s and champs 8s along with on the day double and a single on champ! WHAT A RACE

By a shorthead....;)

A quite astonishing finish! If Champ could jump he would be a GC favourite but he can’t get away with that ..again...CAN HE?!

I'm so upset Champ won this...not just that he beat Minella Indo, but a horse like Champ won. Fair dues and all, definitely shut me up about his staying potential I just cannot warm to him as an RSA winner.

Front two murdered eachother in front iMO. Great ride from Barry....gets some amount of criticism on this forum if i remember rightly. Very good horse, but it's easy to see him being opposable going forward again.

great race - was watching right near the line. Minella stepped on the last - the front two were emptying. Thought Champ was jumping better today and looked ominous a couple of mistakes down the back but he gave him a great ride. The form of this might work out quite well as bottom of the hill stamina and guts comes into play.

Best horse won. Everything went right for the front 2. Not sure the pace was crazy as pretty much everything was in it with 3/4 fences to go. MI and Allaho stole lengths at the bend. Couple of bad jumps at the last.

Champ at one point had both nostrils up BODs rectum. On the whole jumped pretty well but slow at others. Had to move out wide to get a clear run. Lost lengths round the bend. Absolutely bolted up the hill and if anything, you'd say the 2 furlongs longer in the Gold Cup would suit Champ more.

If you look at the chases so far, there's been a bias for those at the front.

Politologue won from the front.
Easysland always in the top 3.
Put the kettle on and FD always up front.
1st, 2nd and 4th in the Ultima always near the front.
Imperial Aura always near the front.
LDM led the whole way and finished 2nd in the NH chase.

You could upgrade Champ based on that.

I’ve debated with you loads on Champ and MI in the last few months.

At this point, all I can do is wish you luck with your bet.

I hope both horses get round and we can see a clear result either way.

Yeeeeeehaaaaaa Champ get up

I said in running at the track they’d gone too fast. The first half lap was far too quick for a song ground RSA and it showed. Champs outstayed them.

Have rewatched the finish a couple of times.

Allaho I would say won’t stay the GC distance, my initial thoughts were Indo was out in his feet but when Chanp goes past him h me quickens up for the final 4-5 strides, I wonder if he started getting lonely as he drifted to the center of the course?

Still an unbelievable performance from Champ to finish like that

Deff race of the fest so far in my book.Shame the champion chase cut up so bad in the end as it promised so much

What an absolutely extraordinary race. This is the only 'finish' I think I'd seen before today, but it's still hard to believe.

Two out Champ is in with a shout, but at the final fence he looked done. Then to absolutely power up the hill like that, beating a previous Albert Bartlett winner? Whoosh.

Was the RSA strongly run? I assume this has been covered in review podcasts etc... but if anyone has a link I'd be very interested to read about it. If Champ has outstayed them, then it's a phoenominal run. If he's done them in a sprint finish, it's still impressive but I'd be able to temper my enthusiasm for the Gold Cup (although literally impossible to rule Champ out of that). 12/1 isn't a price I'm scrambling to take but he won't be any bigger than that at any point, he'll definitely be going for it and he'll be going off single figures for certain if he arrives there.

The horse in 2nd Minella Indo ran well, really well. Cheltenham festival record now reads 1st and a 2nd, both Grade 1's over 3m - so will be one I will have onside by the time we get to the Gold Cup. 14/1 should hold until we're up and running and considering he seems to be a spring horse I may chance him drifting a little in price... I don't expect a dramatic shortening in price.

Allaho for me, didn't stay well enough to be at the top of my shortlist for a Gold Cup. I actually think he'd be perfect for a Ryanair. The stiffer new course, same front running tactic over 2m5f - very hard to not see him in the mix even this far out. It's not an ante post bet I'd get too involved in as a single though because (rightly) having placed in an RSA they'll look at the Gold Cup!

Battleoverdoyen ended up 4th, but hard to see him reversing places with the three already mentioned. Not interested in Easy Game, Slate House or Copperhead going forward for the time being.

Loving these right ups Kev and at the prices of the front 3 I'd be with Minella Indo for the Gold Cup next year. Think the mistake at the last cost him and he got going again when Champ went past. I wouldn't rule Champ out but I don't think he could win a Gold Cup jumping as scruffily as he did this season. Agree 100% on Allaho he's my idea of the Ryanair winner right now.

Minella and Allaho got racing far too early and that ultimately cost them both imo. With a more conservative ride I think MI would have won and won well.

It's a great race to watch back and still pains me, even though I had the envoi /champ ante post double.
