Chelters 2016 Antepost bets

Could he be another min fellas falling over each to back it and wasn't out on the course too fair enf has a few runs under the belt now.

What do ye think of Mullins horse in the bumper invatation only 16s at the moment anyone any view on this horse

no volume on the machine ...would expect a bit of money lined up to back him

wide open this year

What are everyone's best bets at this stage?

Thistlecrack at 10's, Black Hercules at 20's and Limini at 8's are my best singles. I've got the 4 Mullins day 1 hot pots at 300's, and the first 3 of those at 100's. At my last count I had 49 multiples already placed, with many including Douvan and Faugheen.

Plenty of bets already down the drain including Cyrus Darius, Moon Racer, VVM (Ryanair) and Kitten Rock.

While I'm sure that we can all agree Mullins will have an outstanding festival, a lot of us may look at Thistlecrack at 10s and wonder what the hell we were doing not backing it.

I thought some live contenders would step in to the 3m division, but the likes of Bobs Worth, Silv Conti and Saphir Du Rheu weren't what I had in mind.

Thistlecrack is close to my non-Mullins nap of the festival.

I had a bit on at 20s on the machine for Thistlecrack. Traded out at 5/2 so nice and green on that one.

Also have green position on Champion Chase on back of Sprinter Sacre and Vautour trades.

On the other hand Alvisio Ville a big loser in JLT

Willie is a great trainer but the Mullins mongs are starting to grate big time.

Other trainers are available.

I'm with you mayo, I think it'll be a sad day for NH racing if Mullins walks away with a dozen festival pots, not what NH racing is all about....

I would have to disagree, I don't feel it's a negative for the game at all, if anything i feel it would be great publicity yet again for the sport if willie, ruby and ricci were to prevail again at Cheltenham, if you look at the over racing code on the flat 5-10 years ago everyone was scared of godolphin, they were apparently meant to mop up the lot and win everything from class 6 to grade 1's, all the classics and yes they were dominant for a few seasons but if you look at the game now so many other trainers and owners have stepped up to the plate and the flat game is more competitive and varied than ever, i think this could have the same effect to the jumps for the current racing community and for new people to come in and want to achieve the same greatness, I believe ricci had his first runner at Cheltenham in 2007, so in less than 10 years himself willie and the team have built something remarkable and set the bar for others to aim at, given them a standard to beat, as a racing fan it is something i truly admire, i believe if it were nicholls or henderson dominating there would not be the same level of negativity

I think you have a point git, I do think though that there is far more money in flat racing and many owners run their own operations, even within a big stable, the problem in NH is the lack of money and that which is finding it's way into the sport is pooling in the same p!ace. It may well be that it will spread over time but it's more likely that the likes of Ricci and Wylie will be lured by the big pots in flat racing and switch codes, they may even combine resources to present a challenge to Coolmore, Godolphin etc, then the jumps game will once again rebalance but at the old lower level

You are going to have to identify the mongs Mayo. ;)

:encouragement: he just annoys me anyway.

The mongs are the favourite backers who just follow the champion trainer of the day blind. They will have loved Nicholls and possibly Henderson in their time.

Fair points and I respect your view, I'm just anti monopolies.
For me there's nothing better than seeing a Sirrel Griffiths type story at Cheltenham

True, but you would have to admit that there's an awful lot of money to be made with this current crop of Mullins horses.

I wish that I jumped on Min at bigger prices, but I had a watching brief until its talent was confirmed.

I don't want to jinx anything, but if the Mullins string get there fit, Day 1 will be absolute carnage for the bookies - especially if they take on Min. I wish I was going with my Ricci coloured scarf.

I'm not usually a favourite backer but I made my mind up at an early stage to get these Mullins horses onside. After the bookies were cheering when Annie Power fell last season, I hope they are taken to the cleaners.......

I heard that big Gary Wiltshire done his brains on the first day, and didn't return for the rest of the festival.

Cudnt agree more Faugheen...the bookies hopefully will get slaughtered on day 1,you have to laugh when they moan about the payouts when in one day, the grand national, they can recoup all their losses....good luck to everyone who have the multiples on for day 1.

I had a look at the results last year on the Monday after the Festival

www.fatjockey.com/news-blogs/racing_news.php?Cheltenham-Festival-Winners-2015-374

There were 7/27 winning favourites but ..

Of note was that all these wins for favourites came in Grade 1 races ( i.e. favourites had a 50% strike rate at Grade 1 level ). Backing all favourites in Grade 1 races would have returned a £6 level stakes profit for the week.

In all 18/27 winners were returned at single figure prices with the main shocks arising in the handicaps.
