Aintree Day 1

Emmet Mullins did say he thinks he’s better over hurdles, but his jumping today was unrecognisable from Cheltenham.

The fences are stiffer at aintree on the mildmay course than at cheltenham from what I hear and have read

So far, so "everything you think is wrong" Aintree. Bliss

Betway Bowl:
Selection: Native River
Value: Clondaw Castle

I'd love Waiting Patiently to win. Clan has failed twice in this race whereas Native River has won it.

Edit:
1 Clan Des Obeaux 5/2
2 Clondaw Castle 13/2
3 Native River 4/1

Impressive smooth win by Clan who has come back to form, Cheekpieces may have made a difference
Decent run by Clondaw Castle but he's not up to grade 1 standard
The redoubtable Native River had an off day (too soon after the Gold Cup?) but still placed 3rd

I've never managed to work out when Clan Des Obeaux is going to turn up....always gets my confidence back and then back to square 1 when I back it ... Try again next season

Aintree Hurdle:
Selection: Abacadabras
Value: Brewinupastorm

Edit:
1 Abacadabras 5/1
2 Buzz 22/1
3 Millers Bank 80/1

Nice when the form works out though clearly the placed horses were overpriced

You could almost see Jack's eyes light up as the loose horse gave him a target

Yeah, once he got over the last there was no chance they were going to catch him with the loose horse keeping him honest.

Pleased for Abacadabras, he gets a fair bit of stick but he deserved to get his head in front.

Buzzing about Aba - needed that! Millers Bank EW superb too.

Foxhunters - a lottery with how they get on with the fences

So guessing:
Cat Tiger/Risk and Roll/Some Man/Tango de Juilley

though older horses (ten plus) have a good record in this race

edit:
1 Cousin Pascal 66/1
2 Latenightpass 11/2
3 Cat Tiger 11/2

Cat Tiger made a bad blunder late on but the winner seemed to jump well throughout. No surprise there was a big price winner here.

wow, great call mate

Red Rum chase

Usually goes to a lower weighted horse e.g. Joke Dancer/Dostal Phil/Gaelik Coast/Grey Diamond

Edit:
1 Editeur de Gite 9/1
2 Sully D-Oc Aa 12/1
3 Dostal Phil 17/2
4 Frero Banbou 10/1

I can't help notice how French 3 of the 4 names are!

The winner was impressive - given the right conditions they might want to aim higher i.e.graded races

Every year post Aintree I always think "I should leave Aintree alone tbh"
Obviously I'm not going to do that, but I've reigned my stakes in massively, and making a mental break from Cheltenham strategies (don't need to be covering multiple horses in a race, no need for tons of multiples) to treat it like a bit of fun, like a super charged Saturday

Have gone with

Fusil Raffles
No Bet
Clondaw Castle
Song for Someone
Sametegal
Sully Doc
Where's Maud Gone

Doubled Clondaw Castle and Sully Doc for their related form

Might have a crack atr the place pot with Adagio included

the each way part of that double has saved the day

The small ‘p’ is for places TKP, no stakes divulged here though I will say Billaway carries more of my money today than any Hunter in my life...

Aah right I see, I thought you were referring to points so backed a few of your selections as a result of the confidence you had in them....that will teach me for trying to be funny and clever :upset::miserable:

A dismal days betting for me today, hopefully the results today will look a lot better on paper in a years time than do right now but I didn’t expect those winners today apart from Monmiral. I do often struggle at Aintree, not sure if it’s the Cheltenham festival betting hangover or not really respecting the horses that bypass the festival for Aintree. Hopefully Henderson will finally get back to winning ways tomorrow because his form is dire at present

Yeah sorry if that misled you, shame the three you followed me with all bombed, the others all did OK...
