2026 Champion Chase

Majborough declared for the Hilly Way, along with Energumene, Found A Fifty & Banbridge.

Is Only By Night a definite for the Mares Chase or is there an argument for her coming here? Cromwell is now 2/116 since the beginning of November, with this mare winning in that month and then another winner a few days ago. I feel her run is certainly worth upgrading and when you think she is closely matched on that Arkle form with Majborough and L'Eau Du Sud then it makes sense to go for the Grade 1 races. If she does go for the 2m 1f race at Leopardstown over Xmas then can see her going well. Majborough should be having a prep this weekend in the Hilly Way but Marine Nationale, Quilixios, Solness and El Fabiolo if coming here would all be making their first starts of the season. She is 16/1 for that race which looks a cracking price especially if Cromwell yard is finding form whilst the 33/1 for the QM may look big after.
They have said all along that the Mares Chase was the plan, however things could change as I believe it was the plan last year till the last minute.

…IET

He gave us a great day Sandown at the end of last season when beating Jonbon in the Celebration Chase without having had a run before. Hopefully we can replicate that form on Saturday and he has the benefit of an outing this time around at Clonmel. He goes there in tip-top order. It’s a race we’d love to win again, and he’s in good form.

IET very impressive and right up there with Marine and Maj as the clear front three for me.
LDS not good enough.
Great to see Jonbon run well again, but has to step up now, Ryanair must be the target I imagine.

IET very good.

Jonbon with definite improvement from his seasonal debut which was good to see. Stayed on well there.

He's not quite finished just yet for me.

Brilliant performance. Looks to have improved massively this season. Has to get over his Cheltenham bogey but deserves to be fav after that demolition.

He'll skip Cheltenham I reckon and go to Aintree. He did look happier today.

Only thing I found odd today was Skelton said last time LDS is best fresh and will be kept fresh for the QMCC, if he's best fresh why run him again 3 weeks later, on that basis I wouldn't be writing him off for march after today.
Jonbon ran well enough, just Il Etait is a better horse than him now, great ride from Paul, tomorrow should give us a little more information for march.

I completely agree Skeltons comments were contradictory. Now days that it ran flat (no surprise) and will be freshened up for Chelt- I am still optimistic or is that the pocket talking!

Great race there. Very impressive from IET, not a chance would I back at 5/2, his performances at Cheltenham are always 10lb short.

He's definitely a much better horse fresh and all his best form has been at Cheltenham so there's still hope.

He's going straight to the Champion Chase now which is the right thing to do.
