2026 Champion Chase

What do you consider an over reaction? Jonbon has yet to win a grade 1 race around Cheltenham in 4 attempts. To put into context, he is 4/4 around Aintree and 5/6 at Sandown, all grade 1s. Have to start coming to the conclusion it's just not his place. Could argue there is an under reaction to L'Eau Du Sud. 14/1-16/1 looks more than fair considering how well he jumped and travelled there. Fit and conditions not great but that was still an impressive performance. Matata was getting readily dismissed despite rated 157 and with a run under his belt. Entitled to improve for first run outside of novice company, I think his target is clear and looks the best of the British, even ahead of Sir Gino for me.

I think Jonbon is a Grade 2 horse at Cheltenham and Grade 1 elsewhere. Nothing wrong with it, he’s just not as good at Cheltenham. Whether he’s race fit or not that is as well. He’s never been out the front 2 his whole career he’s a proper Grade 1 horse, just not at this track.

Over reaction, but what to do with Jonbon?
There was already noise around Jonbon stepping up
Ohhh Nicky just mentioned he's horses are a tad behind. Sounds like Tingle Creek is the aim, and could still be a decent price to back as he does improve on
The price drift makes it look like they knew he weren’t fit enough. As you say we may get a good price for the TC now

Just watched it back.

That was some performance by LDS. He jumps for fun around Cheltenham. He is so very good fresh as well. I hope they maybe have another run then keep him for March rather than wear him out. He is such a great jumper and traveller. Softer ground definitely suits though so he could be ground dependant in order to produce his very best.
He does look physically that he's stepped up a few gears.

Did Henderson let the public know that his horses were a ‘few weeks behind’ in their work BEFORE Jonbon ran?………rather than afterwards, where he was very open about Jonbons fitness

The bookmakers appeared to know based upon the price drift………

Jonbon has always improved for his first run over fences, using the Schloer for his main target being fit for the Tingle Creek.
Big difference for me yesterday was his jumping which was not good, and he could not get away with winning the race as he has done.
Personally think the TC now is a massive race for the horse will tell his connections what to do next.

It’s possible that he’s simply on the wane and it could be argued losing at end of last season was sign of that.
Originally I put that down to end of a season type run but it’s possible that I was wrong of course and he’s been overtaken by others now.
Anyway Sandown next month we will find out for sure imo.
He beats LDS and performs much better jumping then all back on track, if not a big decision will surely have to be made

I’m not sure if he did but the bookies for sure did. Even if they didn’t people are always gonna assume they have inside info due to the sponsorships

I’m pretty sure that before the race yesterday De Boinville mentioned Jonbon will come of for the run and Skelton said LDS was about as fit as he could be

Possibility of king George if under performs in tingle creek ?

Anything’s possible when a horse starts underperforming and stepping up in trip is an option. He’s proved he stays 2and a half well and been successful, so yes 3m may be an option, especially round Kempton. Ryanair could become a target too.
Retirement may also be an option if he’s awful again I the TC I suppose.
Just have to wait and see what happens in the TC.We may see him back on track for the QM after that.
Whatever happens the horse owes nothing to anybody, he’s been very consistent , exceptional at times, although also a tad disappointing at times, but most of the good ones that can happen.
They all have an end date, and his might be soon. I hope not as he’s given me some great moments going racing and I would love one or two more.

Found a Fifty to stick to 2 and 2 1/2 miles

Bookies dont need to know, they can just react to the exchanges, if people in the game start laying based on info not in the public domain (and they do,certain yards more than others) then the books will adjust for that.

Forgot about the exchanges…….good point EA

So bookmakers don’t need to effectively lay certain people nowadays to inform their market, they just need to watch the exchanges like hawks ……a much cheaper way I expect for making and managing a book

The level of liability on exchanges for ante post events is usually pitiful, markets usually have pennies available and what many won't know is that it's Betfair populating both back and lay sides (for pennies) to give the exchange some credibility to avoid blank boxes.
Anyone putting up a reasonable order will spook the market, and of course as soon as trader/bookie does put an order up Betfair withdraw their order on that market...

Jonbon a doubt for his hat trick bid in the tingle creek. Having won the last 2 renewals on heavy ground.
Trainer concerned about the ground getting too soft, apparently didn't like the Cheltenham soft ground the last day.
Fucking Melts.

I know he's just a sentimental old waffley bell end, but someone should tell him to shut the fuck up.

Something like the interviewer saying "He's won the last 2 renewals on Heavy you tit"

Nick Luck. Hang your Mr Whippy head in shame.:(

FWIW, I'd expect him to run anyhow.
Mainly cos JP or someone in his circle will point out the snivelling.
