Renneti (14/1 nrnb) will go very close in this and/or could easily win of his mark.

His last race looked a clear test over the Coral trip and he gave his opponents half a dozen lengths when jumping off. The way he came through the field (hard on the bridle) 2 out was very eye catching.

His previous run 1+1/2L behind Jezki with Tombstone in behind was also decent. But judged on the above, he clearly gets this trip.

I'm looking further than Peregrine Run and Consul De Thaix to start. If Peregrine Run gets in off low 140's then that is one of the best bets in the handicaps at the festival.

I backed him at 33/1 yesterday for the coral cup. Just went to top up on my bet and he is best price 20/1 now. Obviously a few people are of the same mindset JM.

I'm also a big CDT fan but I am just not sure if he likes it around here. Iwill probably get stuck in on the day if there is a little ease in the ground.

Yes my shortlist for this is PR, CDT and Air Horse One. PR looks a belting bet if he gets good ground.
 
PR Irish rating is 139 so i would think Smith will assess at maybe 144/145. what would you think of this rating Jackie?
 
Looking through PR form, certainly loves an undulating track with form at Cheltenham beating Wholestone by 1L. Cant believe i missed seeing this horse. Thank for the heads up Jackie

BayofFreedom kindly offered the following about Peregrine Run on the Neptune thread:

Was on the phone with Peter Fahey for 30 minutes today talking about his target (and some of his lesser horses). Peter is very tempted about the Albert Bartlett but has also entered him in the Coral Cup. He won't be running in any race if it's worse than Good to Soft. He's not scared of the Irish horses and is pretty confident the horse stays three miles with no problem. He travels and jumps well so that works for both races and he would easily keep his position over the three quick hurdles down the back straight 2nd time around in the Bartlett. I suspect he will be kept in both races at the five day stage and then see the weather forecast. He could get into the Coral off 141 or so and that would put his weight in the 10.8 - 10.12 range I would have thought; that would be difficult to resist.
Then again, a full field in the Coral (26 I think) is very different to the likely 16-18 runners in the Bartlett. It's a bit off a toss up. The horse is well and in great form.
Not sure that's much use - NRNB in either race would be my advice.

I must admit I was surprised he was taken out of the Neptune but Peter is adamant he will stay. On balance, I would (just) be leaning towards the Coral; his ability to travel and jump will be a great help and, yes, I think the Old course (which he won on in November) suits his style of racing.

I missed that. Thats fantastic update and tbh i wouldnt blame them to want to have a go at the AB, but if they got in the Coral of that kind of weight yes it must be considered an outstanding chance.
 
I don't know what it is guys and I hope I am wrong, but something is telling me the PR and Wholestone form is the wrong form to look at unless they are amazingly well handicapped for this race.

I am just expressing my opinion, lets hope I am wrong!

It's tough cause might have been an off day forWholestone but travelled throughout that race so well and powered up the hill which is always a good sign. But I agree with Jackie a nice low weight and my goodness. If memory serves correct he carried 11-7 when beating wholestone so could be even better with less on his back.

Kinda in line with that Jm - I just think PR and Ws may have shown their hands a bit too early.

After PR was mentioned earlier today I did some homework on him (as I do when you guys mention a horse with claims) I honestly think if they go the AB route I believe Wholestone will reverse the form.

I think the Wholestone and West Approach form is very strong so I would be happy with anything below 145 for Peregrine Run.

The arbitrariness of the UK handicapping makes it difficult to guess. In the Ascot race that Brain Power won Golden Spear, Pyromaniac and Quick Jack all ran off, pretty much, their Irish ratings but Waxie's Dargle ran off a rating 5-6 pounds higher. Similarly, in the Betfair, Veinard's mark was 3lbs higher and De Name Escapes Me was 5 lbs higher. Peregrine Run was given a provisional mark of 141 when he ran at Warwick and, if that is indicative of the UK's assessor's rating pre-race, then his current mark should be pretty close to that. Willoughby Court is rated 144 and was in receipt of 3lbs from PR and beat him by 9.5 lengths - which suggests 141 is about right.
We will know on Wednesday!

My bad, for some reason I thought PR would have been bumped up after the WA performance behind UNWIMH. I should have checked his OR before commenting. Bring on PR for this race. :encouragement:
 
Key to Peregrine Run is the ground. Something close to good and the Coral should be perfect as he travels so well. He ran well despite the ground at Warwick.
